Island Otter and Male
On the Ship
A couple of days later found Kalea waking up again in her hut. Normally she’d be living with her folks, but since she was close to being an adult, they allowed this. The female sea otter could tell it would be another beautiful day without having to step outside. And it would all due to being with Nicholas. The female wasn’t certain why that was but pushed that thought to the back of her mind. Before the day had ended where they had shared lunch, the fosky had asked if she’d like to come on board the ship he and his crew lived on. Kalea was keen to do so and replied she would. Nicholas then told her he needed to get things ready for her visit. While the otter wouldn’t go all over the ship, the main eating area and deck needed to be cleaned. He then said when the sun was above her head was a perfect time to come over.
Nicholas figured that was the best way to tell time for Kalea as she certainly didn’t have a watch or phone to tell it. The sea otter spent the morning letting a couple people know where she would be at while also getting ready herself. For some reason, she wanted to look her best for the long-haired male. Kalea wasn’t able to figure it out just yet. She chose the usual light blue top and bottom that he had seen before, but also put on a bracelet she had made herself from seashells. This went on her right wrist. The female did some last minute adjustments before heading out to the water and swimming to the ship. Like the first time Kalea found Nicholas at the same spot where she had first seen him. This time the fosky was scanning the water for the sea otter and smiled when he saw the female. “The little fish comes again,” the male said with amusement and she giggled again.
Kalea was soon up on board and handed a towel to dry off the excess water. “How was the swim?” he asked.
“Very well,” she replied.
“Well… I guess I should show you. Come.” Kalea followed the fosky, her eyes not missing any movement from Nicholas. “We won’t go down to the lower levels. Perhaps that will be for another day.”
“What there?”
“Just other vehicles to help our trips underwater and other stuff.” Nicholas was careful so she could understand him. “Obviously I won’t show the rooms of the crew. But we can start on the deck.”
It was quiet the nice one. Kalea could see a number of others here having fun, eating, drinking, laughing, and talking in her head. Maybe even dancing up on here with music playing. She loved both of those things. And at night, it could be magical which was another thing she loved; the magic of both the real kind and fantasy kind. It wouldn’t be like on the beach which was something Kalea also loved but if it happened here, she knew she’d love it. Nicholas then took her through a door and the blast of air conditioning made the sea otter jump and squeak in surprise. Nicholas actually laughed. “It’s cold!” she exclaimed.
“It’s just something to keep us comfortable while working from the heat in this area,” he reassured her. They still had the towel and Kalea wrapped herself up in it, grateful for the warmth. “You might get used to it.”
The female made no response but took a look around and saw the ship was very homely with its colors of the sea and pictures on the walls of it. There were even a few things of actual objects that came from it. “Wow… so pretty…” she said.
“Glad you think so. Oh, you want some food?”
“Little bit later,” Kalea replied.
“Okay, I’ll show you the next room.” He took her pass the ones that research was analyzed, stored, and other things were examined. Nothing was in there at the moment. The two then emerged into the parlor area which was a relaxing area along with were the crew ate. Light was allowed into the big area. There were a number of comfortable seats and two sofas. A large T.V. with all kinds of gaming systems was set up here. The kitchen and dining area were also homey feeling as well and different colors of the sea with others that matched. And thanks to the light, it felt warm enough that the sea otter took off the towel and found she could stand the air now. “Oh my…” Kalea breathed.
“What you think?”
“Oh my gods… it’s beautiful…” Even the sea otter knew enough English to know that word.
“My captain is the one to thank. He mostly came up with the ideas used here. What I love about it is that it feels like I’m living in the ocean itself.”
“Say where he and others?”
“They all took the day off like me,” the fosky replied. “I hope that’s okay…” He got worried as they were the only ones on board, a young male and female.
“It fine,” the sea otter answered with a dazzling smile. “I trust you…” She had replied without missing a beat. That made the fosky feel better. “So you like sea with what you say?”
“No, I love it,” he answered. “True, it’s not the first thing from nature I would choose to say, rule over or use. But it’s number two. I love to swim, I love many of the things found there, I love to travel on it, and I love being with others in it. And now I can do all of that here on this tropical island which is like paradise.”
The sea otter began to giggle. “What?” the fosky asked.
“Maybe you sea otter in past life,” she commented with a grin.
“Perhaps I just might have been. True, I can’t hold my breath like you can Kalea, but I have the same kind of fun just as you do.” The female smiled and still took a look around. Her mind began to wander and daydream which was a weakness of hers. It was suddenly a thought of living on here.
“Uh… earth to Kalea?” Nicholas asked waving his paw in front of her face. The sea otter jumped, snapping out of her daydream, blushing.
“Oh!” she exclaimed. “Sorry!”
“Here, maybe you need some food.”
Nicholas sat the sea otter at the huge table that was gleaming and shiny. Kalea just looked with curiosity as all of this was new to her. While she knew how to cook, that was mainly by fire. This was very different. The female then watched the fosky at work with the food and got a dreamy smile with her chin resting on one paw. Kalea suddenly caught herself. “What am I doing?” the sea otter wondered in her head, blushing like crazily.
The male in the meantime got some fish out and began to lay it in a pan. After seasoning it, the guy placed foil on it and placed it in the oven to cook. While that was going on, he brought out some other things to go with and bread. This was sliced up and some was placed in front of the female. “This should hold you until it’s ready,” he told her.
Kalea sampled it and found it was good. She had never had anything like it before. It curbed her hunger which was a good thing since the sea otter could smell the fish cooking and it made her hungrier. But it was only 20 minutes until the fish came out of the oven. Nicholas took the foil off and there was a cloud of steam. “Not much longer now,” he told her.
The fosky got some drinks ready and brought out some grapes and cheese to go with the fish. The long-haired male got it all set up on the table and the glasses with liquid in it. “Oh wow…” the female whispered. “This looks good!”
“I’m glad you think so,” he replied. “Just be careful with the fish; it’s very hot out of the oven.” Kalea took the fork and a small piece of it before blowing on it. After figuring that was enough, she took a bite and her mouth exploded with the flavor. “What you think?”
“I love it!” the female stated with a grin.
“Then you’ll like the other things,” he said. “I doubt you’ve seen cheese and grapes but I’ll show you how to eat them as well.” Kalea had never had dairy products but the cheese added a nice flavor and so did the grapes. The male then got what he wanted and began to eat.
“You really should cook for others sometime!” the female stated.
“Maybe in the future,” Nicholas said. “I’m sure they’ll be opportunities.”
The sea otter was then struck with a thought. “What happened to stuff you wrote on flowers?”
“Oh the notes for them for research? Yeah, that was all stored in that one room we passed by. Luckily it made my captain happy. God knows he needs to be after last time.”
“What happened?”
Nicholas shrugged. “Our ship got caught in a storm after the last place we went to before coming here. Luckily we weren’t hurt.” He then got up. “Wait here.”
He left and returned in a couple minutes, holding something. “While during it I had this with me,” he explained. “When I first brought it on I did it as a joke but during the storm it was in my paws and I was praying as hard as I could that we’d make it out. Somehow we did so I’m not sure what it was. Something out there or this. Whatever the case, I always take this with me whenever the crew and I go out to sea.”
Kalea took it from his paws and looked closer. It was just a tiny bit smaller than a playing card. The back has some kind of black spiral pattern on the back. The front featured some kind of serpent like creature with blue being the dominant color. It had two heads, one above the other. The underside was purple. It also had two clawed hands and quiet the red spines on it. There was writing on the top and below the picture but Kalea couldn’t fully read it due to her English language skills. “What is it?” she asked.
“Something I consider to be a good luck charm now,” the male explained and took it back but held it up so the female could see it. “It’s from a game I use to play. I won’t get into that but part of the name of the card is Ocean Lord.”
“Ocean… lord?” Kalea replied.
“Yeah. The sea holds many secrets. Maybe there is such a creature in the waters protecting us. Just like the myths and legends that surround them. Would you like to learn some of them? Maybe some of the things that are connected with the sea and what one of the things that really make me love it?”
“I love that,” the female said.
“Although… I just realized it might get in the way of what your people tell for tales and what you believe in. I don’t want to mess that up.”
“It won’t. I love learning new things about it. Maybe even magic in them.”
“Alright then…” They finished up the lunch and went to the sofas. The female sat on her knees while he sat on the other thing. He began to tell a story of a princess that came from the sea onto dry land where there wasn’t any night. She then went on to meet a prince of that land. They fell in love but she couldn’t stand the harsh light. So he sent some out to her father, a ruler of the sea to bring a bag that had everything related to night in it. And so the princess was able to live comfortably on land with the prince. Kalea was a good listener, nodding her head and giving the fosky her full undivided attention.
He then finished it. “Wow!” she exclaimed. “That was good! Such love! So magical!”
“I’m glad you liked it,” Nicholas replied.
“You tell good one! You have more?”
“I do,” he told Kalea. “But they’ll have to wait until another time.” She put on a cute otter pout and the fosky chuckled. “I’m sorry but the truth is that I actually have to do some work right now for tomorrow. But if you want I can tell you another story then.”
“Promise?” He nodded and Kalea smiled. Not long after that she left the ship with a wave and one last look at the fosky. He returned it as well and didn’t head back in until he couldn’t make her out in the water. The two felt closer than before and then another thing for them to bound over would happen.
