Well, Wildstar has finally shut down. It was a fun game while it lasted, sadly plagued by repeated failed launches, lack of marketing, what little marketing there was as well as the mechanics catered to the "hardcore" too hard (It's a bit frustrating when you're doing the beginner dungeon at level 20, the first dungeon in the game, but it's so difficult you keep having team-wipes on the first pack of minions right in front of the entrance!) by trying to instill a sense of nostalgia for the 'hardcore' days like Vanilla WoW without remembering that the reason they were so hard was long attunement grinds which W* had until recently, so it was overall rather mismanaged...but it had the most unique combat system of an MMO I've ever played, a fun and cartoony sense of humor that was almost Borderlandsy and didn't take itself too seriously, like the whole game was some kind of Space Western parody TV cartoon while still having serious moments and an actual plot, which it kind of was, but you know what I mean.
Where else could you get a corporation that's such a parody of corp culture that they're quite literally an entire galactic faction of paper-work shuffling clones that will sell any product no matter how unsafe to the point they built a city-sized flying shopping mall for Christmas? Or a mad scientist space-hamster that writes a 'missive to the emperor' in an ancient, dead language that translates into nothing but taunting the opposing faction about how they'll spend months translating it for nothing? The game even had cute little space-weasels called the Vind that inflate themselves with "Primal Air" to beachball size to float on the winds to migrate!
Had fun character designs and classes too. Shame to see it go, but for all that enjoy seeing blimpy chua, I'll always have Sazz, a fluffy and fatty reminder of all the fun I had playing. Honestly it'd be nice to see more of them around considering all kinds of crazy designs are possible, even odd fur colors like blue and pink are considered natural for them.
So here's Sazz, holding the planet Nexxus, where the game takes place, since if the game's shutting down, they likely won't mind him taking the planet and using it as a seed for a new home, perhaps in a new universe.
