Capt. Phil Hunter (from issue #99 [April 1966] until #105 [January–February 1967]) — Green Beret in the Vietnam War searching for his twin brother Nick, a pilot shot down by the Viet Cong.
Shortly after World War II, U.S. Army veteran Colonel Ben Hunter and his wife gave birth to twin sons, Phil and Nick. was At an early age, they learned that one brother could often perceive the emotions and presence of the other. When they were about ten-years-old, Phil fell through a patch of ice and began to drown. Nick saved his life and the bonds of brotherhood forged between them became unbreakable.
Both sons followed their father's career path and enlisted in the military. Phil joined the United States Army and became a Captain in the Green Berets. After several campaigns in North Korea, Phil mustered out of the military, while Nick continued working in the Air Force ultimately achieving the rank of Major.
At the height of the Vietnam War, Phil Hunter learned that Viet Cong insurgents had captured his brother. He experienced intense nightmares wherein he saw visions of Nick suffering beneath intense enemy interrogation. Phil re-enlisted in the Army and mounted an expedition to save his brother. Accompanied by a South Vietnamese sympathizer named Lu Lin, they traveled deep into VC territory. Viet Cong soldiers captured Captain Hunter and placed him into a prison camp but he managed to escape and rescue his brother. The Hunter twins freed two more P.O.W.s and returned to the safe haven of an Army Air Force base where they were reunited with their father.
