Done for my Directed Themes class. I chose to illustrate some more current issues people are running into with the environment. I thought it would be interesting to present these illustrations with collections of articles, possibly in a book format. The main point of doing illustrations like these would be to put more of a storytelling kind of twist (so instead of the stock photo image of cars in a traffic jam, there would be something more emotionally moving to the reader).
This one is based off an article by Susan Casey called "Plastic Ocean". Somewhere in there she called this trash dump a “leviathan,” I couldn’t get the image out of my head, (or any of the actual images that accompanied it). If you haven’t already taken a look at this and you’re curious, take a look at these sites:

The last two sites have more on how to help out. And if you don’t have monies to donate, you can do things like recycle (not just in the usual meaning, but if you have a used plastic spoon or bottle, you can always re-use it. Or make a fort. Oh, cheap kids toys o_o). And obviously, avoid using plastic shopping bags. Okay, I don’t know why I’m so rambley tonight, the above sites are great to check out and for learning more :)
