...while I do think being overly excited over something to the point of having it being part of every thought of one's mind is a bit..uncouth, I'm not sure that really qualifies as a reason to hate something that you're not into. That mindset kinda reminds me of how some normies are with furries. = . Though i have things i dislike a lot that some have a high interest in that i need to work on myself.. x.x
So maybe i should be asking this instead: What it is it about video games you hate?

time consuming, yes. Achieve nothing? Not quite. It may not achieve what you deem worth having time put into it, but building a skill to have fun with yourself or others is not nothing. Plus with some games the fun is being part of a story and actively being a part of it play out. Others are about competing.
Do you not do anything for fun? Most activities that are "fun" are not exactly constructive. Reading a novel? You're sitting on your butt imagining a world that has no bearing on this one. Playing a sport? Sure, you get exercise but does it really have meaning in the grand scheme of things. And sure, you can get money for doing that, but we're not talking about professional activities. Any and every other activity under the sun that is for enjoyment and not for anything constructive? Still a "waste of time" with this logic you have.
The thing you actually dislike is the lack of moderation those that like games have, correct? And, by your last statement, it seems you're jealous that these games take time away from you and your friends. But you know, you could always try to understand what it is they enjoy about it and see if you can enjoy it a little too. When playing other people, it's actually a massive brain crunch if it's player vs. player; you have to preemptively counter the other, think fast to get out of situations, understand your surroundings deeply... Hell, i haven't played checkers in YEARS and i beat my dad at it and nearly whomped him in each game just because i have high cognitive functionality. Though, checkers would still be a waste of time, huh? (and to be honest, my ADHD got in the way of winning and caused me to lose most of those games right at the end XD)

I think it was the episode that bat skipped class and Skinner chased him.
I think it went something like;
Skinner "I know you can read my mind Bart. I will prove you skipped school today."
and after Bart looks at Homer and Homer goes
"I know you can read MY mind Bart. *mentally sings the MeowMix jingle*"
