So this is what's been keeping me busy for the past couple months.
Finally got to cast it. First time i've made a two piece mold of this scale
Now i'm working on yet another mask, albeit much simpler.
Hope you're all having a nice October so far (:

Absolutely, man. Hehe, I understand enough about how drawing and painting work to be able to reverse engineer a lot of folks' process in 2D art and really appreciate the craft and time that went into something, but 3D work like this is still pretty much just magic to me.
I'm totally ignorant of how you did most of what you did here, but it certainly looks amazing ^_^

Amazing detail. I can see why this would keep you occupied for so long. There are a lot of contrasting elements here that make it work really well. It's human, but just not human, too. Smooth except for the cracking at the center. Monsterous in a way yet it could just be sleeping. Its potential won't be realized until the eyes open and that's a real moment of tension. Really really cool.
thank you!
yeah, if you're using some kind of oil base clay (chavant, etc.) tool marks can be tricky.
i mostly use wed clay. just gotta keep it wet. it's perfect for doing extremely tight detail & smoothing is quite easy, so long as you have a looped rake-tool & a stipple sponge.
