I don't suppose "Dramatic and quite excellent sacrificial death in the heart of some main reactor" was a viable option? As they say on the vast intertubes: Nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. I would also add to that: Sunder the planet to pieces and fling it into the sun. For when it absolutely, positively has to be reduced to a few whisps of vapor for the few seconds before gravity drags them into the sun's core.

I have an apocalypse fetish ^.^ Nah, I'm kidding. I've watched too many action movies and think whenever brain-screwery has gone on there's going to be an action-y, super-climactic final death scene in some main core reacor room with lots of explosions and a suitably hopeful denoument.
