G'day. I've got something a bit different today: a Mario character, anthrofied?? Well, back in Octbober (that was a typo, but I'm keeping it because I like it), I started rewatching the Game Grumps playthrough of Mario 3D World. And when they got to a Plessie level, I was reminded of how much I like Plessie and think he/she/it is cute (though I always headcanoned female)... and was also reminded of how little fanart there is. And as for the amount of anthro!... I could probably count the number of pics of anthro Plessie I've seen on one hand and have fingers to spare. Criminally underrated.
Anyhow, I put myself up to the task of righting this wrong. Very noble of me, I know. (Ahem) But anyway, there's someone in the LuigI/O chat who loves scalies as much as I do, and he was very excited to see WIPs of this. And now it's finished, I bet he'll be well chuffed. (If you don't know what LuigI/O is, it's a stream on YouTube where an AI tries to beat Super Mario Bros. - and it just finished its first run today after exactly 200 days!) I hope y'all can similarly find enjoyment in this cute Plessie. =P
I can't really remember exactly why I put Yoshi there, but I guess it provides a sense of scale. This isn't some kind of macro thing, just look at how big Plessie normally is! Maybe not this big... but she's got to be big enough for Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad to all ride her simultaneously. Actually that reminds me, I did this little doodle too. (I like to imagine the four heroes being just as rowdy and uncivilised as they would be if the game were being played with four players, and Plessie has to put up with their shenanigans.)
I did the sketch, lineart and flat colour back in October, then dropped it to focus on Super Scale Bros. and the animation for those HeartGold episodes. Glad to pick it up again, though. I tried something different for the shading this time: I actually shifted the hue across the lighter and darker areas (e.g. for her orange skin, i used a redder tone for the darker parts and a yellower tone for the lighter parts), which created much richer colours than before. It seems obvious now, but I'm glad to have found this. It's sure to be helpful. I was quite happy with how the anatomy turned out, too. And the shiny skin. The background is a bit weaker, but it's... fine, as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, I hope this contribution to the presence of anthro Plessie... uh, makes people happy? Then again, if there were barely any pics it's probably because nobody cared in the first place, lol.
