This is part 1 of a story about an early iron-age raccoon society that was an order of warriors called the Koorn who specialize in exterminating other coonfolk who have rabies, known as Afflicted. The guiding principle of this society, the Coda Tuempa, forbids raising a weapon against another raccoon, so they must fight the Afflicted with their bare hands.
There will be other species in later installments.
It's a story about violence, brutality, loss, comfort, and brotherhood.
There's violence, gore, death, and some tasteful nudity (no sex).
It's about 8000 words.
I haven't written in a while and am open to suggestions or criticisms.
Also this one is kind of dark.
UPDATE: Edited it a bit, fixed some spelling and grammar errors; the native Libre Office spellcheck is abysmal. Still not 100% satisfied but I'm happy enough to move on.

If this was anything like what you did before Hiatus Damn. You got your groove back dude. You got that pacing and dialogue back under wraps tight. Very good flow and description. Excellent use of anthropomorphism which makes the Koorn very much real in that balance between animal and person.
