This was my entry in the 2018 Halloween Scary Story Contest hosted by  Cobalt_Raccoon

Unfortunately the contest was called off this year because nobody voted. Oh well, I had fun anyway :)

This may or may not be the first of a few of these stories. I am looking into trying to found a genre of horror called "folk-horror". This would be any horror inspired by folklore or put in a very rustic setting. The game "Year Walk" and the traditional Grimm's fairy tale "the Juniper Tree" are examples of folk-horror stories.

This particular tale is based on legends surrounding a type of Scottish monster called a "kelpie". They're traditionally male, but I used a female one here. Anyway, hope you like it!
