Look out, Wielder! He's coming for you, and he has his sword drawn! Since my "incident" I have been trying hard to recover the firm line work I had before, and it's practice, practice, practice, to get there. But I have also noticed that in my focus in 3D work, made my 2D skills static, especially my color work. A few years ago these Talented Russians started appearing here at FA, using this painterly, academic, style. Soon from then I noticed other painters here, and started following them. Now
Silverone is not a Russian, but she had been encouraging in her comments, and her tutorial asides in her process images.
Getting back into RPGs via Roll20.net allowed me to dip back into the well of inspiration I hade, back when I played Tabletop games. And so I decided to pursue that painterly, RPG style. I found out that it was hard. But after 3 months, I produced "Blaine Gloriosus" The Depression I didn't know I was suffering slowed me down. 3 months was unacceptably long, and that diminished my desire to do further painterly color pieces, though the positive response was gratifying. However the "incident" with all it's negatives, did, in fact, clear my depression. I actually had energy again. I even did a couple of color pieces upon my release from the Hospital. However, color still took a while and effort. It was after watching a stream of one of the painterly types, that I realized I was working harder not smarter, and the above work only took me about 55-60 hours. A big improvement, but still a bit long. However looking at artists like
Nomax,
Botak,
Bonifasko,
LevelViolet,
bhavfox,
Saterina,
Furlana, and, of course,
Silverone inspired me to push harder, and get into that painterly, D&D Manual sort of space with my art. Thank you all.
The piece is painted over this original sketch from years ago http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5220185/ as i thought it captured Magnus' character best. I may do this with other sketches, But I am putting together an RPG books for the Lupines as a playable race for a couple three RPG systems, probably released as a PDF on Drivethru RPG. I just have to finish three more character portraits and a few spot illustrations to go with the text. Hopefully things will turn out nicely. Photoshop over an old Pencil sketch. Thank you. I just painted over this sketch http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5220185/, and used the color scheme from "Introductions". I watched a lot of streams to get an idea of what is going on and asking a few questions.
oh this is so so so awesome! I always loved your art ever since YERF and your wolf characters stick in my memory quite firmly all these years later. I do hope to see more art like this from you in the future, it makes me so happy to see it! I'd love to see a fully painted Asheru piece someday!
Anyway to get a print of this? I'd love one myself! :)

Maybe. We have play tested them and they don't screw up game balance. They are a little less prone to be surprised, a little bit more durable, and speedier. They are well suited as barbarians, rangers, druids, and do okay as spell casters, but make good light infantry and rogue assassins. The paladin is beloved, and is why he will be on the cover (the piece "Blaine Gloriosus).
As for style, after my hospital stay i realized, artistically I was stagnant and had to push to do something new. and taking things (for a reason) into the realms of digital painting and RPG illustration seemed attractive to me, after years of 3D NERFed my 2D skills somewhat.

Was talking to Wielder the other day and she brought up how you're exploring different art styles (or, coloring styles) and I am so pleased I remembered to come poke about and see.
I, personally, know next to nothing about composition or color theory, or painting for that matter. But as someone with a deep admiration for folks who do painterly/painting styles (and someone with eyes), this is absolutely stunning. I'm so glad to hear you're on the road to recovery, and to see the avenues of art you're exploring now! This is so gorgeous, the colors really pop but they go so well together. So excited to see more of this style from you!

The whole thing, though, is wanting to learn. If you want to, you can learn anything. During my recovery I decided that 3D just wasn't doing it for me any more, and i wanted a change, So, I decided to put what I knew about painting, plus watching painterly streams, and put things together. I felt I was given a second chance, and didn't want to blow it. So learn something new, and see how it works.
