Oak "Village" is more of a City now than a village.
Ever since the "Fall of the Hammer", this massive, magical tree has been home to many denizens of the Mystic Isles.
The tree itself is a dimensional hub. Many branches will lead you into alternate realities. Each portal is marked with signs. Some portals are blocked off entirely due to the chaotic, dangerous nature of the dimension found on the other side.
This tree came into existence within multiple "Realms" of existence as a result of an experiment being simultaneously conducted throughout the multi-verse. In some, nothing negative happened as a result of the experiment..in others, massive cataclysmic events occurred. Elutheria is one such world, in one such dimension, that was negatively impacted by what the denizens of this world call "The Fall Of The Hammer".
Nobody knows what happened to the people who conducted the experiments, as they, and their entire laboratories, disappeared from known history at this time. Some believe they were Gods, destroyed by their own hubris, others believe they never existed and that the tree just magically appeared one day, lifting their islands into the sky by some unknown, arcane magic.
Whatever happened, it changed the world from that point on..Technology was all-but-destroyed, plunging the world back into a pre-industrial age for centuries.
The tree itself is, seemingly, magically imbued. As the population grows, new homes seem to grow right out of the tree to meet the demand for shelter.
The tree is veined with many internal passageways, right down to the roots, where some of the more..dangerous..creatures live, so many of the tunnelways are blocked off. The inside passages are naturally lit by a luminescent greenish yellow light along the ceilings or walls. THere are small spiralling patterns to be found all over the tree for reasons that are as yet unknown.
THe concept is based somewhat on the Yggdrasil tree in Norse and other mythological lore.
