Oh gosh thanks a bunch! It's still not quite where I want the style to be, need to fall back to a little more toony to exaggerate expressions the way I want, but it's getting closer hahah. Definitely decided I want to work in black and white, I like it so much more than using a full color palette personally!
You know, I'm not sure how intentional this is, but… Alex has much smoother features because she's younger, while Rafe has the more angular ones to make him feel older, and that's a common trick, but it also emphasizes how Alex is a living person and Rafe is a machine under his skin. He's literally made of mechanical straight lines.
Hey thanks for the insightful comment! Yes, I've always intentionally kept Al more rounded in contrast to Rafe's hard edges, glad you noticed :D The original intention was both the living/organic vs metal/geometric, and also their personalities (Alex is soft, more warm and gentle, which is in direct contrast to Rafe's colder, sarcastic, and intense attitude).
Thank you so much! I'm still playing with it and haven't cemented it...but not sure I ever will lol, seems a disservice to not just let them evolve as I go I suppose! :D Much happier with them now than I was some time ago!
I also got your card, thank you so much! :D I love that you always send Fate Saga themed art, I can't wait to see more!

It's good to let them evolve, I think! Even when the final product is started it might not be a bad thing to let the style continue to evolve. Especially with indie projects it might be expected!
Haha thanks! I'm glad you like the Fate Saga art! I've done a lot of sketches recently but that's been the only finished FS piece lately.
In speaking of finished pieces I also like the way you do hard shadows. It always tends to look flat when I do it.

I agree, reading others' comics and seeing how much the style and art evolves is inspiring. I like the fluidity over keeping things too set in stone.
I'd love to see the sketches even, heck sketches are often my favorite art. They just have a lot of rawness to them, and can be so expressive. If you ever do a Twitter or something where you post roughs, I'm all down to see!
Thank you, I feel like this is still kinda flat but I'm working on it! :D

Agreed! I don't even mind seeing it in animation though I understand it's not as acceptable in that field.
Aww I'd love to show you! I don't really post the Fate Saga sketches online since I'm playing around with plot ideas with them so depending on whether I go with those ideas or not the images might be spoilerish. I could optionally load them up onto a Dropbox folder and link you. <3
Of course you being the artist would see any flaws in your work, but it's getting even better and will only continue to improve as you go! :D

I really like seeing it in animation too. There's so much life in roughs and pencil tests, and sometimes there's just no time to refine and fill in every frame. If the basic movement is there, it's all good in my book!
Dude YES! Feel free if you do feel comfy sharing them, I understand not wanting to share spoilerish stuff and interim ideas you aren't sure about. I'm that way with Mechanima too, although I'm really gonna need some friends to read over my first draft of the outline when I have it finished so I can get help with identifying any plot holes and getting opinions on what works and what doesn't, hahah. It's...kinda a vulnerable feeling, in a way, at least for me :P
