Zar's a bat character of mine from a Redwall RPG. This was just a semi-quick sketch to try to picture him. While not the greatest, think it turned out decently.
Unfortunately, I can't draw characters upside down. For that reason, I just flipped the page around (or... I didn't really do that, I started drawing upside down... err... right side up... umm... well, you know what I mean). However, because of this, and a lack of planning, I think I did a really bad job as far as gravity effects go. If I were to do this over again, I think I'd try to put a lot more emphasis on the upside down aspect, making the clothes hang properly, and... somehow make it so you didn't naturally think the picture was upside down rather than thinking the character was.
Also, due to the lack of forethought, the whole thing with bat anatomy is totally off - most obviously, he has six limbs and has more of a sorta fuzzy gargoyle anatomy than that of a bat. My goal was to make him quite human-like, yet carry over the sort of movement and habits of a bat. So, I adapted the way he hung upside down and such, which I thought turned out nicely. However, the wings were a disaster. Besides the anatomical messups, they're apparently completely defying gravity. Honestly, I had no idea what to do with them since I didn't want them wrapped around him like a real bat, as that would ruin the ability to show how he was holding on and such, and would have hidden most attemps at making him looking actually anthropomorphic (which I wanted).
He's supposed to have a medalion on. However, I couldn't figure out any way to do this without making him look really stupid having this funny thing hanging "above" his head.
As a request to any people who (unlike me) are actually artsy, if anyone has any suggestions on character upside-downness and making it look right, I'd be really thankful for any advice as I really have no idea how to go about it (especially since I'm still pretty bad with clothes folds, gravity effects on them, etc). The same goes for any suggestions on how the wings might have worked out such that they wouldn't block the body, yet wouldn't look like they were covered with Crisco to make them stiff enough to stay like that. I have virtually no experience with bats, very little with wings, and less with gravity or wind effects. Hopefully I can change this as stuff like flight would be able to express a whole array of things that I'd love to, but as of yet, am incapable of.
