The sound of violently rustling foliage was punctuated with the creak and snap of chlorophyll-green jaws. Great beasts among plants slithered out from the forest, maws slavering with sticky sap to make of themselves adversaries of the two travelers from afar. Their forms closed in and darkened the perceptions of the canid interlopers, seemingly dooming them to the fate of fertilizer.
But it was not to be.
Light glimmered in the gloom, spilling between the cracks of the hoard of hostile foliage. Fire, white and pure like light stabbed through the curtain of ill intent, repelling and blasting apart the onslaught while like lightning a sliver of glimmering violence liberated toothy craws from their slim, green gullets. The charge repelled, flames ringed the hard-won ground wreathing the two in smoldering glory as they stood fully armed and armored before the regrouping enemy.
With blaze and blade the duo brought down a great wrath upon their enemies, such that they would never again haunt the woods with their gnawing hunger.
