Miyu IS canon, since Star Fox 2 came out on the SNES classic! It's just that SF1 and 2 share their own separate canon, while SF64 is just the first of several reboots.

Is she using some kind of grenade launcher? The size of the shells would seem to match modern 40mm grenades. Though the backpack ammo-pack for the gun would make it something you throw away once you have run out of ammo, and considering the relative size of the backpack, that thing doesn't hold more than 60-70 shells in it at full load. Now it is a considerable amount of firepower, but any prolong engagement would see her run out fairly quickly, if I can base myself on the modern day usage of M320/203 and MK-19.
