Believe it or not, this actually was drawn BEFORE I became a fan of Hans Roedi Giger (or even knew of him, for that matter.)
It started as just a frail-looking tree on a hill and I started really manipulating it to the point that even I didn't know where it was going. Then I decided that I could throw a subliminal message into it and that drove it even further towards surrealism.
I imagine the dying/half-assimilated tree to be our earth or Nature, and the water upon-which it stands to be the oceans/atmosphere. The big organic mess on the left is something like humanity and its all-consuming force, infesting and devouring the tree and its water. The machinery intertwined with the organism is like technology, machinery or industry... whatever, and it has become part of the organic matter, also consuming the poor tree and polluting its life-giving water. You can't really see in the sketch but the whole right-side/upper-right corner is supposed to be cast in fading sunlight with just a few rays still reaching the straining branches and their leaves. This is supposed to be the dying hope for Earth and Nature's existence before it is completely infested in pollution and industry.
