
I thought I'd share this being its Halloween. Found this pile of bones in one of my barns.

That board is between 4 and 5 inches wide. Probably closer to 5. I'd have to go out an measure to be sure. Anyway, that should give you some rough idea of scale :)

we used to have a screech and barn owls in ours but the barn got hit by a truck
(he was flying to low) and the screech is just missing
the barn may be finding favor with a hoot owl but he's really cagey nd goes silent
when people move around at night

I agree it's probably an owl pellet, considering where it was found, but foxes do eat (and will cache) mice. Probably more than they eat anything else, in most aeas. Their methods of hunting mice in thick-woven grass (or in snow) are pretty spectacular.
