
So here is a painting I did for a new friend, whose OC is an otter and a lifeguard (an interesting idea, and it gave me this inspiration)

Ah, for a moment I thought you had made a stereoscopic painting! I think the left one looks more defined, like the lines are less opaque and that gives the image a more solid look overall.
Both look nice! I think it's one of those cases where you can use either for an intended visual effect.

Using the superimposed version gives it an overall higher contrast but I would use the other version. Then the background stays more in the background and the viewer gets more focused on the main character in the foreground. You can also do a compromise by keeping the original outlines only for the character and not the background. Hope that helps ;)
