This is the opening to a Rhapsody for Piano Solo that I've wanted to write for a while. It is meant to emulate the style of the famous Liszt Hungarian Rhapsodies (and yes, it does use the Hungarian mode). I hope to have more soon. I'm trying to develop some more themes to use for this.
The opening six notes of the piece are rather interesting, and kudos to anyone who figures it out.

While I do have and have studied the score to 'Tristan und Isolde', and I've even made use of the Tristan chord in one piece, this is not the case here. Although you are on the right track with looking to a German.
I wrote this in Finale and it saved it there. I've played the nasty run in the middle at about a third the tempo, but I have played the rest at that speed. I don't have any way of recording anything live though. But the latest installment of Finale has some good libraries that almost sound like the real thing.

Usually the normal one that I know of is Alto, but I guess that's what I remember most folks playing in my Concert Band days.
Either way, all Saxes are notated in Treble Clef (from what I recall). But once you know one, figuring out the rest isn't too bad.
Good luck!

It sounds like the first notes are from Schohenberg's Pierrot Lunaire, but I can hear something similar in one of Stokhausen's Klavierstruks.
But apart from that, this piece sounds pleasing to the ear, and I really want to hear more of it! But there is a little thing that's bothering me, at around 20 seconds when you have the chromatic
(I think) scales it feels as if they should be more legato, but computers can't play music correctly so never mind.

*chuckles* I don't think I have heard a piece of music I more thoroughly detested than Pierrot Lunaire, and I've never heard anything by Stockhausen. So those were definitely not my inspirations, eve if there is some resemblance!
Yeah, there's only so much one can do even with good music libraries. Still, I'm pleased with the way most of the effects are rendered. Here's hoping you like more of this as I add to it!

Yes you have heard something worse, but it wouldn't classify as music. I didn't think so, especially because they were just a series of notes in the middle of the piece (and in pierrot lunaire, in the background).
Anyways, I'll keep checking to hear it finished, maybe learn something in the process.

Well, you're on the right track at least. Those notes are important. Just using the wrong language.
I've started on a counter theme section that will contrast nicely I hope once I can get the presentation down. Don't like just block chording the whole thing. Too repetitive and lifeless.

Ah, well, I had all these classes in Music Theory, and a lot of self study. It's still taken years before I've begun to absorb all the sorts of chords I can use and figure out when to try them!
Hope you like what I've done with the Rhapsody; posted a bit more on it.
