Only really used for show and or gifting a "Cigar Coffin" is basically a humidor for just 1 cigar usually for more expensive smokes.
I bought these cigars as gifts and they were supposed to come in coffins made by the cigar company but of course, they didn't. so I did the first reasonable thing I could think of, I stopped by Lowes on the way home, bought some cedar planks and then went to Hobby Lobby and bought some decorative clasps and brass rods (used as the hinge for the lid)
I have coffins from a couple different cigar brands but they all had one thing in common, cheap. super thin wood and about a 22 gauge wire for the hinge, a use once and throw away thing. I wanted to make something a lot more robust and reusable if the recipients wish to reuse them, for cigars or something else. I also lined the bottom with some nice distressed leather.
I'll be getting some better pictures with the fifth coffin that inst completed yet. Was only going to make four but loved how these were turning out so I decided to make one for myself ^_^
and for those that might be curious these cigars are made by Ave Maria and the blend is Divinia. retail these are just under $20 a piece but I caught them in an online cigar auction and somehow managed to nab them for $5 each! Cigarbid (dot) com I love that website

I do believe you're right. would have to be changed slightly though. I have yet to finish the last one so no detailed pics yet but when the lid opens on these the entire back rotates with the lid which is what is lifting the cigars in the back. with that it leaves a rather large hole to have things fall through lol. it would be a minor design revamp to keep that piece stationary though.
Might want a thinner and stronger wood as well, this is 3/4" thick and cedar is pretty soft as compared to oak or other hard woods. I'm also looking into other tools to be able to make them more accurately and fit together better, not to mention prettier too. I'm just hoping I can get a decent tax return so I can get some of the tools. I normally get money from relatives on Christmas but got a CD and a couple ornaments this year.
