Northern Pacific Baldwin #2156 class Q-3 sits dismantled, it's firebox filled with a few boards and whatnot.
It had sat on display at the Como Zoo in St. Paul, MN until 1981 when it was moved to attempt restoration. Sadly, water intrusion and it's eventual freezing appears to fatally damaged the Fireman's side steam chest. Stitch welding had been floated as a way to repair the damage but it appears that the MTM was written this locomotive off as an operational engine. It's sister engine from East Grand Forks, MN, #2153 might end up being a better candidate or perhaps the cylinder that is damaged might be swapped between them.
Originally shot on Kodak Gold 400ASA with a non-descript Kodak 'point and shoot'. Then re-shot RAW at 100ASA. Colour curves were used in Photoshop to correct negative orange cast and then inverted. Then brought into Aperture for further tweaks.
