Its not the rifle, its the cartridge round. Bolt-action machinery post-dates mass production capabilities. The concept of the interchangeable part is critical to begin this process. Muskets would have given way to breach-loading rifles before the cartridge round came about. Besides, most metallurgy processes were not up to the task of producing rifle barrels that could withstand the kind of stresses of a weapon such as that.

The picture itself is still a wicked cool image. Its merely that mention of a "musket" which throws ya off. Waning days of cap-and-powder weapons would be more accurate, and the fashion of the scoped rifle and the tricorne hat together are just freakin' sweet.
