The two sat on the bed a little past midnight. The silence between the them allowed for the faint crickets and gentle wind to be heard from outside. Arcada, having not been able to sleep, sat up hunched over with tired eyes. His dad started to rub his eyes and stretch after waking up not too long ago then scooted himself closer to him. “What’s up” He asked. “Is there something wrong?”
“I just had a dream that got me thinking… What do I do when I’m all alone? When I have my own place worrying about bills and work. What if I get behind on paying what’s due and I end up in debt. I won’t have anyone to call for help except for maybe the bank. That’s not something I wanted at all.”
“What was your dream about?”
“I had an apartment. It was a nice apartment with furniture and plants in some corners. But I had bills piling up on the table and people came in to take all my stuff away from me. Then I ended up with nothing.”
“Well I’ve had dreams like that before. It wasn’t a fun experience trying to learn how to manage my own money all by myself. But the only difference between you and I from back then was that I had no guidance. So you don’t have to worry.” He paused, then proceeded to ask, “You planning on going to bed soon?”
Arcada hesitated before answering, “Yeah. Sure I’ll sleep in a minute.”
He laid on his back and rolled over to face the window. The light filtered through the blinds and shined on his face and on the rest of his body. “When you have more dreams like that. Just remember when you wake up that I’ll always be there to help you out. It’s going to be okay. Okay?”
“Okay.”
