IMO orchestral music can be just as badass, if not more badass, than a lot of metal. Remember that no real music has been actually banned in today's society as much as warning labels have been put on them. Songs like Gloomy Sunday from back in the 1930s-1940s are still banned worldwide (especially in Hungary, for Gloomy Sunday's case) and operas as an entire artform were banned in some parts of the world during the 16th century.
...there was a point somewhere in there, I'm sure of it.

\oo/ \oo/ Brother spakes the truth! On a side note though two problems I have noticed with Heavy Metal video games is first of all, the tendency to camp it up. Now that works for games like Brutal Legend, where the camp is intentional, but in some games they throw in content based on surpuflous tropes with second and third string rock guys (or the rare headliner) to draw in fans. The second thing is that when a game takes it seriously, like the old Blizzard classic Blackthorne, Prince of Persia 2, or some of the current Castlevania games, the straights who make their bread as critics like to bitchfit about how "inappropriate" the metal is when the closest they get to headbanging is Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.
Just my two cents

I loved Homeworld. Oh god... oh god it had music by Yes. YES! When will the metal return? Progressive rock has turned me gay.
The halflife series could use some metal, but they have ambient techno instead. Really good ambient techno. That's an adjective I never thought would go with that noun. Its obvious they want metal, but there is some kind of inhibition there.
Have you seed "The dark side of Phobos"? It's a CD of doom music recreated by pretentious DJ fucks. Naturally some of them turn their track into techno crap, but some bring the metal. Well... computer synthesized metal, since DJs don't know how to play instruments, and hence don't understand the importance of lead and backup guitar.

All I can say to this is .....UP THE IRONS!!
Growing up in the 80ies might ruin once taste for aesthetics, but if you grew up with 70ies and 80ies rock that was present there, it kind of makes it accompany you throughout your life. Haven't seen "Brütal Legend" so far (only the trailer), but I love how Mr. Black tries to stick to that spirit in all of his projects. And oohhRAH! for spikey things that explode when you shoot them!

Your comics are awesome though I do disagree with you on one small detail. I think games have been using orchestras more only because now they have the option where as before they didn't and I wouldn't call it an influence of the movie industry. After all, midi sounds were almost always used in games just to imitate orchestral sounds simply because it used to be infeasible to use prerecorded music.
