A stranger whom, the amnesiac Malik Schrade ran into in town, revealed himself to an old acquaintance named Victor. In addition to details about Malik's past, Victor revealed himself to be the leader of an underground militia known as the Seekers of Tomorrow. Claiming Malik that his life, as well as that of his daughter, Samona, were in danger, Victor convinced him to travel to the Citadel, an underground base which acts as the headquarters for the Seekers of Tomorrow.

After a failed infiltration, the assassin called Ray is captured by Victor and is questioned by Malik Schrade. Malik learned that his old friend is a "Dark Dreamkeeper", a title given to those who ally themselves with the sinister Nightmares of legend. Wanting to reveal the truth, Malik returns to the surface and travels to Talocan District to meet with a woman who is an accomplice to Ray and agent of the shadowy organization known as Vindicus. Sent with two assassins who plan to eliminate the agent, Malik meets with Gabriella Valentino and reveals the plan in an attempt to save her life. As a result, the two assassins are killed and Malik is rendered unconscious by a tranquilizer hidden in his drink. Meanwhile, back at the Citadel, Victor has killed one of his own soldiers who made the fatal mistake of attempting to force himself on Malik's daughter, Samona.

Now, captured and taken away to an unknown location, Malik is about to see just what this mysterious "Vindicus" is all about....
