This. Costume. Okay the dress was easy at first, and then a nightmare, but that was more my sewing machine's fault. EFF YOU, ZIPPER FOOT. The wig was customized and took only 10 -15 minutes and some photo refing. I spent way too much time trying to find green hoop earrings, but I'm super anal about costumes. The earpiece is too small, so I'm eventually gonna make another one. The nails were a pain to get off. The falsies stayed on surprisingly well.
BUT I LOVED IT. Enough to suffer through a con just to wear it again.

This was amazing cosplay.
I went to a Trek con at the Providence Omni-Biltmore hotel back in 1989. The special guests that year were Leonard Nimoy and Nichelle Nichols. While Mr. Nimoy was talking to a bunch of people Nichelle saw me looking her way and came over to talk to me. She introduced herself-which while maybe unnecessary I thought was very classy-and asked my name then began asking me stuff like where I was from, how long I'd been a fan, etc. I was all of fifteen years old yet she never talked to me like I was just some kid. She loved how much of a fan of sci-fi i was, and asked me about my favorite books and authors. She even asked me about my favorite music which at the time was a mix of hair bands and rap. She loved that I was into Hip-hop, and said that she felt it was her people's best way of getting in touch with their roots, and that she knew it was going to become a worldwide genre encompassing all different varieties of music.
We only talked for maybe half an hour but in that short amount of time she helped calm my nervousness and ended up making me feel like I'd made a new friend. I went from star-struck to having a bit of a crush on her. One I still have to this very day. The next year she was special guest again, and when I walked into the room where she was greeting fans when she looked up and saw me her eyes went wide with recognition. "Christopher! How good it is to see you again! Come here, come here!" I was blushing so much. She introduced me to that years other special guest, James Doohan, as her friend from Coventry, Rhode Island. I couldn't believe it. I was her friend.
I never got another chance to talk to her again but I will forever consider Nichelle a friend, and will never forget her kindness towards me. She is truly a woman worthy of the admiration and emulation she receives. Thank you for paying homage to her.
