So, I've decided to pick up art, and in an effort to improve and motivate myself, I'm starting a series of concept pieces.
I have actually have a world set up for my character Aevery, I'm actually kind of proud of it, and so in an effort to tell the story, I'm going to draw little things from the world, starting off with small things and moving into bigger things, and each one will have in the description what the item is supposed to be, its history, function, etc. Possibly my own criticisms of the art as well, since I'm just starting out and want to improve, so comments on what I could do differently are welcome. I think on this piece, my biggest issue is the string looking too flat.
Aevery's Pendant
This item, commonly worn as a necklace, is actually a phylactery for Aevery. It houses his soul and enables reformation in the event of death, making him a lich.
The original method of creation was handed down to Aevery from an ancient vampire, who traded the knowledge in exchange for freedom from his prison.
Aevery made a few "improvements" to the spell.
Instead of turning into a withering husk, Aevery would become as healthy as the day he created the necklace. For better or worse, this means he cannot age, and cannot change (nor improve) his physical state.
The pendant also grants incredible regenerative effects to him, based on his proximity to it.. unfortunately, the inverse is true: beyond a certain distance, his body becomes much more weakens, decays and, eventually, fails completely, whereas a normal lich would be able to hide it and travel indefinitely.
The last change is not really intentional, more of an error on Aevery's part. Dying erases roughly the last day's worth of memories. He will never remember his death, or the events that lead to it.
This pendant is Aevery's prized possession, and he will often find himself absentmindedly holding and rubbing it if he's particularly nervous or anxious. Thankfully, despite it being Aevery's literal lifeline, most people don't pay it more attention than a curious glance.
