Commissioned piece for
of her and her mate
at their Handfasting. I've included pretty autumn scenery and the usual symbolism I like tucking into my art. The snails just kinda showed up but I figure they have something to do with taking a relationship slow and steady and waiting for the right time to marry, as this couple did. =) And of course the rising sun in the background signifies new beginnings. Water for tranquility and roses because...well, cuz she told me she likes them. ;)
I'm honored to have been chosen to do art for such a special occasion, and I really had fun coloring this! The knotwork took ages but it was well worth it. I even went and got a silver sharpie for outlining the knotwork and coloring some parts of the pic, mainly the jewelery and the trim on her dress. It doesn't show up so much here but in RL it shimmers when the light hits it. =D
I hope you guys like it, and congrats on your wedding/handfasting!

I'm UStreaming now if you want to watch. I draw a lot of it by hand, though sometimes I'll draw out a section and then trace it out over a section to keep it consistent. That or I'll do a section I like and another section doesn't look right, so I'll trace out the section I like and redraw the part I don't like. **shrugs** I see nothing wrong with an artist tracing out their own stuff in the effort to maintain consistency. Especially with things like knot-work.
Seems I'm too late to catch the streaming (I was at work). But it sounds like you pretty much do your knots the same way I do mine. I'll look at a pattern and figure out which part repeats, sketch that part, and then just trace what I sketched over and over, making sure to connect the pieces. Sometimes it gets screwy at the corners or if I run out of room along a border, but I try to blend everything together as seamlessly as I can. Knotwork is sorta relaxing to ink though, and the finished stuff always looks awesome.
