The girl opened her mouth but shut it right after, restraining herself from forming an exclamation of surprise. She looked again at the washed out face, beaded with sweat, and she found herself feeling a surge of disappointment. She had not realized that she had been saved by a woman. If on one side this discovery increased immensely her gratefulness and admiration, on the other it muddled up her fantasies a bit. Cause, in the ancient ballads, the saved maiden would have conceded her heart to the valiant knight who came from afar, she would have mounted his horse and would have left with him towards a castle safeguarded by the heart of a shaded valley. But she wasn't the protagonist of an old ballad, her savior was a monster, and as if it wasn't enough it was a woman, and she wouldn't have mounted on her terrible horse for all the treasures in the realm!
She shook herself from her thoughts, realizing that the stranger was looking at her. The light blue eye was clouded by suffering, the black one, shaded by long dark eyelashes, stared at her, piercing. It was then that she realized that half of that face was make, the other half female.
