It is interesting that Miho thought that it was just a one-time thing in regards to the creation of more simple designs and back to overworking herself into burrowing on more information and research, she was wrong. Not the first time she was though, at one time she was looking at something particularly interesting. A person that asked the strangest of requests, he wanted a flaming dog. This is her story…
Rosy as Miho affectionately calls her was a very endearing child, one that was always proud of her parents and that dreamed of one day to be a nurse, such an energetic child would only see that this was her calling and that in order to do so as her mom and teachers told her, would be to have her undivided attention towards her studies.
So she like any other child with a dream, she would pleasantly strive to learn to live to get this dream done but, dreams are nothing but dreams if one does not work towards them. Later on in her life she took this more to heart as her rapt focus for learning led her to also read English classics in her leisure time one of her favorites being Mice and Men. Her parents however were concerned about her, their jobs were closely related to the Military, even more so that her mother was quite the knowledgeable Engineer which garnered quite a few visits and calls from her superiors. This is why when later in Rose’s life; her mother was not surprised that she wanted to pursue nurse and medicine in general but helping the soldiers in the military sector rather than in the private or even the public sector.
Her parents advised her against it, conflict between countries were reaching fever point and war seemed imminent. Despite all this, the naïve young lady presented that she was determined to help those in need even in times of war. Soon after this, war broke out and her mother was enlisted to help troops devising new weapons and defenses on structures to deter the enemy from invading. As such she was in charge of R&D; this meant that her mother had very little time to be with her family. Her father continued to support her, seeing that Rosy was determined to do her part and graduate from nursing school. Years pass and the conflict seemed to never end, then tragedy struck; Rosy’s mother was killed in a recent bombing as she was developing a new tool to help people. It was said that it was something that only the high echelons in the military were investigating and only them had any extra info on the details of the project. This was especially devastating for rosy which was about to graduate and start her work as a nurse.
This only emboldened her to finish her studies and work in pursuit to help those in need, she becomes a fully fledge nurse and for a brief time, she saw how the conflict has scarred those in and outside the battlefield. She heard that her mom was basically a beacon of hope whenever she was seen, offering her insight and showing designs that would give the enemy the least amount of incentive to attack and further minimize casualties and damages. These made Rosy curious, this seems something that the military would be likely spend time and effort to not spread around. Still it reached her ears; clearly her mother was an inspiration to others, not just to her. War continued but it wasn’t long before a truce and after a lengthy process of peace talks, the country that starved for peace, finally achieved it.
Rosy was now discharged from being a military nurse with a letter of recommendation from her superiors for her great work in helping the wounded in the conflict. She decided to take a time off, to reflect on things and the death of her mother. It was sometime later that she received the few items that her mother said in her will that should be given to her, including a disc of her to open on her personal computer. The case was very different and it seemed that people tried to open it before to no avail. There was a letter, in it her mother apologizes for not seeing her dream come true but she was proud nonetheless. In her mind she would have loved that she picked up on her own expertise which was engineering but that was ok, she settled to support her all the way. In the letter there was an address too, but it seems that it wasn’t on the map.
Now that she had the time, she started to pick up some of the books her mother had about engineering as a hobby, it taught her many things she seen before the war when her mother was tinkering with stuff at home. This began to spark more interest on her part and with this disk; it seemed that this was a call to learn enough to crack it open and see what her mom had in store for her. Months passed and several books, and online courses later, she understood enough for her to have engineering as a second job and began devising products related to her job as a nurse. It helped her a great deal too. At this time, she met a curious fella at work, her name is Vee, she started to befriend Rosy as soon as she took on her hobby of learning engineering. Vee was knowledgeable, to the point that more than once Rosy asked why she was a nurse of all things, Vee merely shrugged and simply said that she liked the subject as a hobby but nothing to pursue a career with.
In their conversations, Vee hinted things that would help Rosy resolved the mystery of her mother’s case. Finally after many months of research and tinkering she unsuspectingly opened the case and revealed things that were beyond her wildest dreams. It first had a note similar to what her will had and then that she would pass on her legacy, something she had been working on, trying to reverse engineer but now that she was seemingly close, disaster struck and the base was raided, she did this note at the last minute and seals the case only to be opened by her bright and diligent daughter.
Such words brought tears to her eyes, taking her several minutes before she would explore more of the contents inside the case. There were several pictures, humanoid in nature but clearly it wasn’t human but rather something with a mechanical feel to it. She began perusing further and found a journal, full of marks and notes, without a moment’s hesitation she delved into like those books she read when she was a child. The journal was filled with a lot of information, most of it that required having knowledge in her mother’s field to understand it, luckily, she took upon herself prior to learn such terms and followed everything with relative ease. The journal explains that they found by accident during the war this mechanical creature that was basically protecting them and specially one particular soldier that seemed that was very familiar with the creature. Her mother went on to say that she has never seen such a feat of engineering and was deeply curious but couldn’t investigate further since the couple left soon after the skirmish was over. It was later that they found the same being, comatose or in this case inactive and her companion dead, probably from an unsuspected raid in the area. The creature which then named EO(extraordinary object) was immediately confiscated by the military which they assumed was a new weapon the enemy infiltrated behind their defense line.
The journal went on, explaining that this EO was slowly becoming a faceless doll, features lost as if it was capable of changing itself. In reality, explains her mother that the creature simply disintegrated those features as the loss of energy was slowly reserved to the conservation of the EO itself. This conjecture led the higher ups to designate her and another colleague, a small girl called Molly but she always desired to be called M, to be the top researcher of the project. The words from this point seemed to pop out, to illustrate with detail every intrinsic development they could find from it as if her mother was filled with newfound glee like a kid getting a new toy. The next few pages were a recount and possible theory of schematics. Along quite a few symbols that looked in a language not known to any of the crew. Clearly, this was something out of this world. Rosy was immersed so much that he she spent days trying to decipher her mother’s journal and all the utilities she seemed to have given to her for what it seemed to be the last few entries of the journal.
Rosy dreaded this point of the journal, her mother final moments before she was killed by the enemy. Surprisingly, they were filled with the same glee and curiosity but, something was odd. More and more of the pages were filled with that strange writing and interspersed were semblances of the same phrase over and over. She trudged on, it feels like a mystery that was about to be resolved by her, which in turn was already make her have various hypothesis of the subject at hand. The last few entries mentioned that she and M moved EO to a more secure place and replaced it with what visually looked like an exact replica. It seemed that M was interested in that they would rather instead of reverse engineer EO, to wake it up so to speak. This has of course to be outside of the military influence and as such all this needed secrecy…
In her journal she gave several hints of instructions to build something that would jostle EO up from its slumber, they figured that it was not in any danger of shutting completely down. Sadly these were last few entries before it almost ended abruptly with a short: “I love you Rose, be strong and make me proud….” The last d was rushed as it seemed that the whole journal was shoved in here and secure before everything went south. Tears filled Rosy’s eyes, they were pouring out when she was reading the last pages. This felt as if she was wounded deeply on the spot, pain surged, not one of physical, but mental and emotional damage. Now she was sure to not let down her mother in her new objective. Armed with newfound encouragement, she started deciphering the clues that her mom sprinkled on the journal. It gave instructions to build the aforementioned device and a tracking jammer in case she was being followed. This one felt like it was above her knowledge and while not disclosing where she found the schematics, she asked her friend vee for help. Vee did help her as well they came with tweaks for the design on their own.
Finally she prepared herself and set off to the place her mom already plotted when she first gotten her belongings. At this point, Vee told her that she would be busy for the day but wished her luck nonetheless. Prepared, she set off to the place marked and for some reason did not meet any kind of vigilance or rather it seemed unusual that she was not being followed, was it perhaps that the military gave up on the search for more info and then finally gave the only few things that they found from her mom in the ruins? She doesn’t have the answer but one thing was for sure, she wasn’t going to falter now. Behind the scenes though, M had worked everything out so she wouldn’t any resistance from unsuspecting and nosy beings who wanted to trail her just to be sure that her mother was actually deceased. It seems that Rosy’s mother had one incredible companion, one that went all these lengths to let her daughter have some kind of closure from all of this.
Dilapidated was putting the description of this place mildly, is as if the region has never even recovered from the war. The road was in such a state of disrepair that car was unable to keep going the route that she traced in the map and had now to leave the coziness of the car to continue on foot. The road was not the only thing in ruins, the buildings and the walkways too were in the same state of ruin as the road. The buildings at least most of them in the vicinity were destroyed completely and partially. She walked, in what it look like the vestiges of the war that have been left as if anything they would silently tell others the result of war and that one should avoid it. Rosy walked block after block, roaming as if she was looking some kind of hidden treasure; the silence only broken by a dried up twig that was stepped on. Finally, she reached the place and pulled the device, it looked crude and rather untidy in its structure but it did its job, as soon as she turned it on, there was a low rumbling beneath her feet.
The location stopped its rumbling after a few seconds; it was all inside in a shabby looking building that was partially destroyed The door was unlocked, probably the area was ransacked during the turmoil of the attacks and as such when she finally entered, the area looked particularly dilapidated, where once was couches that were ready to be seated, now laid broken ones that the material was bursting out of the seams and were impregnating the room with a moldy smell. She trudged on, checking every room till she found a door that led to the basement; it looked a bit cleaner, like it was used before and recently one might observe because the quantity of dust accumulated.
Once she entered, things changed and quite drastically; for one, the door shut itself close without warning once she was inside. She rushed to open but the door didn’t budge, she was now confined to the basement. As if the walls melted, it showed that they too were projections to feign that the place was dilapidated and abandoned, the item on her hand was resonating quite audibly now and the path downstairs was slowly being illuminated. Rosy understood that she was now in the point of no return and continued onwards towards the illuminated path.
It was as if she was in another world, a world full of people that were invested in creating mechanical things; the walls were emblazoned with all sorts of experiments and trials that surely dwarfed the one that she did with the help of her friend. Finally she stepped towards an opening; the room seemed to expand into nothingness until the lights turned on and practically blinded her momentarily from seeing what was ahead.
“Your mother has certainly been right… For that you deserve a reward.” Soft clapping ensued soon after. “Who are you?” Rosy said as slowly the haze that filled her eyes dimmed down and she now could see again. “You should know who I am, if you already reach this destination, but I will humor your inquiry.” The now girl with a lab coat as her only garment came into view, she looked young but there was an air of solemnity on her that made her feel like she was much, much older than her looks seem to show. “I am M but my real name is Miho, I am sorry for your grave loss, she was both an amusing coworker and an interesting human.” These words have taken Rose by surprise, anger began to swell within her rather than anguish, closing her free hand into a very shaky fist. ‘What? Interesting human? Amusing? Why she didn’t act and save my mother? If she was safe, I am sure there was a way to save-‘But Miho replied before her thoughts had a moment to surface into words….
“I know what you are going to ask, here, I don’t expect for you to agree, but I have expectations for you to understand. First things first, your mother died not because I did not try to remove her from the area but because she jumped into the fray to save others. She asked me, not to forget her and to give you her belongings which I did. All things you have now were given to you because I sent them to you and my assistant took upon herself to help you as well by giving you hints. Knowing you were the daughter of such a respectable engineer means that you were highly intelligent. I praise humans with high intellect and sharp wit, your mother were both….”
She paced around the room, Rose’s eyes never stopping to look at Miho as she revealed herself to her and explained that her mother died the way that she had already guessed but never took truly to heart…Saving the life of others much like she would have done given the circumstances. This appeased the fiery beast that was building inside the moment that she saw Miho as a person that would value her own life over others and discard her mother just to save herself. Her mouth suddenly hoarse and dry, trying for the longest time express herself in a way that wouldn’t make her own blood boil in unfounded anger because of her heart betraying reason. She finally spoke “I understand, yet I can’t. I am here to finally bring closure with the death of my mother but if it was just to tell me all of this…It feels convoluted…No, there’s another reason for all of this. Am I right?”
Beaming and clapping, Miho replied. “Like I said I like Intelligent and sharp humans. You are correct; there IS another reason to all of this. I planned to tell her but due to circumstances…” her voice gained a somber tone at the end; she clearly felt some connection with Rose’s mother. “I would like to give you OE, or shall I say a BEA. You see, I am their creator, I build them and yes I decided you are in need of one.”
Rose was flabbergasted! Nothing would ever prepare her for such combination of words. Words seemed to fail to get out of her mouth. It took her a minute to gain her bearing and speak. “You are? This means you-“ Before she finished, Miho interjected. “Yes I am what you consider an Extraterrestrial Being and yes this form is not my true form….” The light shone in a big tube and there floating in the liquid, a human shaped android, Rose thought it looked like a puppet, a much elaborated puppet as there was not a single sign of detail that would define it. She came closer and admired it before asking. “Why I had to build this if you are their creator? Wouldn’t you be able to awaken this yourself?”
Miho got close to her and simply smiled then turned around. “You are her owner now, that in your hand, is just to jostle it up and activate it, upon activation she will be with you, cling to you and watch your every move. The device has recorded most of your vitals and my assistant has input into the device other very pleasant stuff. Now lies your choice: Either turn back and never turn it on, which you won’t see it and me again or you press the device into the object and you will have new things that are beyond your wildest dreams…Now decide…”
Against all things, she moved forward and decided to place the device near the tube. It automatically clicked and locked into the panel. What happened next surprised her, hell it would surprise anyone as everything went bright and now both her and this BEA was standing next to her. It was bizzare because she didnt speak, she just extended her hand as if she wanted to walk with her. After a few seconds, she took her hand, all of this overwhelmed her and soon she fell unconscious. By the time she woke up, she was at her home and no one was near her, was she dreaming? Except the was a fireplace almost next to her face. She reeled back and fell on the floor with a loud thud! This made the fireplace move "Are you unhurt mistress?" Rosy finally had time to focus and saw this huge dog like creature that had been partially set ablaze and was casually talking to her and, she called her mistress? This was the start of their union and adventures together
