I've been sick the last few days, and in that time, I've written some more on my Rhapsody for Piano Solo. I've introduced a second theme which I'll do a little bit of development on in the upcoming section. Not sure if the modulation works though.
Nobody has figured out the niftiness of the opening motif yet. If you can figure it out, you get kudos!

Ahhhhh... it's coming along rather fine! I love the techniques you've put into it-- indeed, it certainly sounds a lot better than what you mentioned earlier... those block chords and whatnot... I agree with randomonlooker; I like where it's going! ^^

Still have no clue about the opening motif, though. Sorry...

"B-A-C-H"
In German nomenclature, "B" is Bb and "H" is plain ol' B, so "B-A-C-H" would be Bb, A, C, B.
So... after looking at your notes, (Bb, A, D, A, Eb, Eb), I did some light Googling to see what Eb was in German nomenclature, and I found it to be "S"... so that would be...

Oh L0L, you didn't... !

*grins and gives you the kudos* I totally did. Figured out you could spell that one day while driving home and wondered if it would sound good. Turns out it did and this piece got started.
I just can't bring myself to use it in the title!
I wish I knew what the other notes are in German. I want to know what other words I can spell!
The second theme turns the opening melody upside to begin, another one of my frequent tricks for devising melodies.
Glad you're enjoying the piece and got a kick out of my deviousness.

Thanks for that! I only knew that Eb => S because Shostakovich used DSCH as his musical signature (as did several composers who wished to honor him, Stevenson, Nosyrev).
Well, I use the tricks I've learned from other composers. The whole flipping a theme upside down or playing it backwards was done by Bruckner first.
As for having a sense of humor, I guess you can lay that at my paws.
