Work-in-progress pencils for
koopacooper This commission features his character 'Leana' getting stuck in a golf-course sand trap (it seems to be doing it's job a little too well :) ).
While originally I was going to do a simple 'standing there' pic to have a model of her outfit, I overlooked my intent and went straight to the pose test. Since the pose came out so well (after several false starts), I decided to add some backdrop and foreground. Clothing details are subject to change, depending on input.

Her outfit is mostly on-model for the character, other than replacing her dress with a short-sleeve blouse.
As for guy's golf clothes, I agree wholeheartedly. Off the course, I recall a gossip columnist who remarked on the contrast between various M/F couples, in which the men always tended to dress like unmade beds compared to their female counterparts. I could not disagree--she was absolutely right. And there's nothing keeping us from getting even worse--as an example, "sagging".

Heehee, I love this sketch, RailRide! Leana is looking very cute indeed in your style, and she looks very fashionable for someone playing golf (the course must be open to the public, not a private club).
I bet that feels weird, getting the sand right in those sandals of hers. They didn't realise there was actually a water-table directly underneath the golf course when they built it - meaning they created a Quicksand-Trap by accident! Squish!
So yeah, overall, I'm loving every bit of this, you've done an excellent job so far of getting my girl sunk!

Thanks.
I've tried a little bit of mudwalking myself once or twice, but the mud didn't get wet and soft enough for it to work properly.
Would sandals create a vacuum and a bunch of drag in that situation, like shoes? I'm just wondering, being that they're far a more open style of footwear...

Definetly. The vaccum is created by the sole. As long as that holds, so will the mud. Something I've experienced a few times. Though the sandal probably won't stay on your foot, but that just makes it even better :D
Are you on any messengers? You seem like you'd be fun to talk to =3

No I'm not on any messengers, sorry.
So, I'm trying to understand this...if the soles of the shoe creates the vacuum (and the difficulty in pulling yourself out), why does losing your shoes lesson the suction? Surely the sole of your foot would cause the same vacuum?
I dunno, depends on how firmly the sandals could be strapped on; I tried in flip-flops though, so you can imagine what happened next - I nearly faceplanted!

Aww thats to bad. I would've liked to go one on one with ya. Its rare to meet a furry girl into sandals AND wearing them into the mud
Well, usually the sole of a shoe is solid. A bare foot is fleshy. Harder to make a vaccum. As for losing a shoe, thats actually the part I totally love. XD

Thanks, but I don't really class myself so much as a furry; I have a furry character, but I'm really much more into loli :) I'm not too active here, but I'm a regular on Palcomix.
Also, I'm a guy, it's just my characters that are female.
I see the logic there; I found it more entertaining trying NOT to lose my sandals though, when I tried it. XD

Years ago I tried it on a tidal flat with Tevas. The mud was sufficiently slippery that once it got between the foot and topsole, they actually twisted around out from under the forefoot as they sank (I only went in about calf-deep). They stayed on thanks to the ankle straps, but it was still awkward moving in them.
A flat bottomed shoe/boot makes the going difficult as it enables a seal to form around the sides. Assuming the mud is just stiff enough to not flow beneath your foot as you attempt to lift it, there's your suction.
A bare foot is composed entirely of curved surfaces, and while mud can also form a seal around it, the foot can bend, tilt and generally push through the mud more easily. Raising the heel while pressing the toes down permits the foot to rotate so there is less surface area beneath it, and presents a pointy-end-down wedge that is easier to withdraw from the mud. Somewhere on one of the barefoot-lifestyler websites I read a claim that you cannot get stuck in deep mud while barefoot.
