Yeah, starting off this new year of hope... by showing a once optimistic and bold character being in absolute despair.
If you didn't know, WB is going to "finish" the Scooby Doo series, "The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo." A sort of spin off series that follows Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby ending up unleashing 13 evil ghost onto the world and thus are the only ones who can put them back. Basically, this plays off the idea of the supernatural and magic being real in the Scoob-A-Verse to tell stories outside of the norm... granted, this is not the really the first nor the last they did this (and to different effective rate depending on which series/movies they have it). Joining them on this is the Flim-Flam, a pint-size Short-round inspired salesman who would never passed up to make a sale, and Vincent Von Ghoul, a mystic man who helps the "Gang" to track and deal with the 13 Ghosts and their powers. Those 2 make a return in this movie, meeting up with Fred and Velma who were absent in the original series.
Oh... and of course. Scrappy was in the series too...
Yeah... Scrappy needs no introduction here. If you watched Scooby Doo cartoons around my age, you know Scrappy: Scooby's hyper, loud, and super strong nephew who tagged along with the gang... and if not from the shows, then you would know him from that AWFUL live action movie he was in. The one where he was a bossy control freak who wanted to kill his Uncle Scooby and gang, raise an army of demons, became a demon himself thank to an evil artifact and sucking alot of souls, all to take over the world... only to be defeated and haul off to jail... which was his last appearance main stream appearance in the franchise... save for the comics, but that not much either....
In the real world: After doing everything in the Scooby Doo franchise within the decade, the creators tried Scrappy to help boost ratings and surprisingly, he was popular at the time... "At the time" being the correct wording for the situation. As time went on, many changes happened to the franchise, like cutting down the cast to save money on actors or just getting really loose with the stories of the episodes and movies; and since Scrappy was the "start" of these changes, as well as his general loud attitude and habit of walking towards danger and needed to be saved; the little great dane pup got alot of hate... so much so, that Wb tried to market on this: Where not only did Scrappy got shots from parodies and jokes about the show, but also from Cartoon Network, from they ridicule him from flash games where you just throw tomatoes at him; to actual bumpers, even in for the network's 20th anniversary bumpers. This hatred even went on to the franchise itself, where his image is met with such contempt, that Scooby and Gang seem to have taken a vow of silence on even ACKNOWLEDGING Scrappy's existence, let alone being part of the gang. Although... they did acknowledged Flim-Flam in one episode
Which builds up a little question which I am sure alot of people are asking about this movie: Is Scrappy going to be in this? Between now and his last appearance: it has been over 30 years since his last appearance and since then, WB has gone out of their way to make sure anything WITH Scrappy does not show him in any of the summary, box art, or promotions for them... the only exception being the cartoons with Scrappy's name official as part of the title. Again, this is due to the hatred he has gotten.
Which makes me wonder: IF they DO put Scrappy Doo in this new movie... will he be a hero again... or a villain like the live action movie? Because, in 2018 has shown SOME sort of tolerance for him.
1. The "Scoobynatural" episode of Supernatural had Scrappy be a quick 2nd Easter Egg in the Multi-Door Hallway-Gag. He didn't say anything, didn't interact with anyone, and didn't have ANY role in the plot... but then again, nothing bad was done or sad about him in the episode... which is sadly the highest respect has gotten since he was gone from the show.
2. A published Scooby Doo Encyclopedia ACTUALLY references him... though, it is a small article in terms of Scooby's family in general.
3. On Boomerang's YouTube channel, they actually seem have anoted-abridged episodes of their shows, and one of them being a Scooby and Scrappy cartoon...
4. The Scooby Apocalypse comics, Scrappy went from a secondary villain for the Gang in this Elseworld story, to being somewhat of an anti-villain/hero. Still, this is like an Elseworld story, and the whole world has gone insane too... so not sure if this counts or not...
But on the other hand: The new Wacky Races cartoon has made a couple of shots against him in their episodes: Like one having him be more "hated" than Dick Dastardly, or have a group shot of Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters... which Huckleberry Hound was pushing him out of the picture. OK KO had some ofcharacters from the spin off movie mentioning Shaggy and a Great Dane: "A" being singular and we all know they're talking about Scooby. And Scrappy's history of being a punching bag for the franchise is exactly gotten stale to the people who make these shows.
But another factor to all of this is that; recently, these new animated Scooby Doo movies try new things to the old school formula to the franchise. Like for example: ALL their crossovers with "super stars", namely WWE wrestlers, the rock-band KISS, and even one with celebrity chiefs. Or sometimes they go all out and have outrageous set up for them: like with one of them with different baddies trying to pretend to be one monster in disguise and such. So I am expecting something like that in this movie too, like they missed one ghost all this time, or Flim-Flam is in league with the ghost. And with Scrappy, they might....
...
Well, I am HOPING that would give Scrappy one last hurrah. Have some sort explanation/closure with how the Gang, Scrappy's friends and family, have gotten some distance from Scrappy, let alone apologizing for making those cheap shots against him personally; and in return: Scrappy helps the gang one more time before they go their separate ways again.... but knowing Scrappy's luck with creative teams and such: They are either going to have him either being in just a throw-away line to excuse him from the movie, be a villain in a way again, or just have him show up in the post-credits, where he at Vincent's house or something, hoping to be with his friends again on the adventure, only to miss it all.
So yeah, I am calling it: The Curse of the 13th Ghost is NOT going to be kind to Scrappy Doo in anyway and regardless of context: He will be the worst thing in Scooby Doo... Happy 40th Birthday....
I based this Scrappy on
DarkMane_of_Shadow_Mountain's design of him being an adult.

They also didn't list Flim-FLam in the credits on the Wiki page either... and with their trend of trying to hide Scrappy in everything his is in, it would be no surprise if they don't give credit of his involvement until the actual movie comes out...
I doubt Scrappy's "fans" would treat him much better anyway...
Besides, even if he doesn't make a return in mainstream media... Scrappy does have a decent role in the Scooby Apolocplse comics.... even though that is a different world (which to add: has pretty much gone to hell anyway) and that Scrappy is pretty much closer to the movie version of Scrappy, only depicting more as an conflicted anti-villain when he mets the gang, rather than just a villain...
