First drawing of 2019! This was actually supposed to be posted on New Year's eve, buuut... well, it took more than expected, and I was too busy celebrating. However, I think this fits well for the first day of the year too! XD
Anyways, this was inspired by a short story Kythl-Moonpaw ( https://www.deviantart.com/kythl-moonpaw ) wrote about Shadi and Nasir, that you can read HERE (https://www.deviantart.com/kythl-moonpaw/art/The-Festival-of-the-Lights-756590441 ) in case you are curious.
I personally really liked his writing style, and most of all I think he absolutely nailed Shadi and Nasir's personalities, they are just like I imagine them. Also, after I read that story I decided Nasir is afraid of heights, this is canon!
I hope you like it, I'm personally quite happy with the result. Coloring the lanterns was quite a challenge, and it could have been a bit better, but overall I'd say it was a success.
As always, if you have any suggestions and critique to help me improve I'd be more than glad to hear them! Happy 2019! :D

This is so beautiful, and adorable!
I will have to read these ASAP, having him afraid of heights, adds a interesting side to him.
I love those lanterns BTW, the real life ones, so seeing this is from you is, really epic. It's very beautiful, just like the real life tradition.
A fantastic piece to wrap up the year with.

Now the difference in appearance is clearly seen. That's cool! The drawing is so nice and warm as well as the story! It is cute that Nasir, an illegal trader, is afraid of height) We need MOAR drawings with him!
Pss, do you remember that said that I have an idea of making a strategy board game about the Beggar Kings? I'm developing this idea and waiting for a chance to tell you more about it. You answered that you have nearly no experience in board games. Don't worry - these games are very different and interesting, like videogames. Different genres, themes. I can recommend you some to start with, if you want.
And I want to recommend you something more. Gryphon the lion in your comission art reminds me the main hero of the "Around the world in 80 days with Willy Fog", the Spanish-Japan animated series from 80-s. Fog wore a dressing gown just like this) I see that is a costume, not a dressing gown) Also, if you haven't seen the series, I highly recommend it to you. As well as French animated series "Argai" - a fantasy-sci-fi story about a prince (yeah, a lion too) who tries to save his girl from evil witch. Time travels, magic and dystopia are included!

Hey there man! Sorry for the late reply, but I have an exam in 3 days, so as you can imagine I'm a bit tense and busy! ^^
I remember indeed you mentioned it, and I'm happy you liked my setting so much! ^^ Yeah, my experience with boardgames is VERY limited, I have to say. Except some D&D when I was a kid I've never played much.
My only problems with this whole project are 1) I don't think my setting is popular enough, and I'm not sure it will ever be. It will take years before my comic gets noticed enough, if ever 2) I struggle enough to find the time to draw, and with my exams getting harder and harder I doubt I'd have the time to jump on such a massive project! It's a bit of a problem.
Ah, thanks for the recommendations! I'll check them out! ^^
