Tutorial 001 - Basic Digitigrade Legs
What's this?
This New Year, I want to learn my craft a bit more in-depth....by elaborating on what I know and sharing it with folks! Expect more mini-tutorials in the coming weeks! ^^
A LOT of people struggle with digitigrade legs. Especially if they started out by drawing people! Some of the most common mistakes for digitigrade legs are elongated toes and treating the knee as a jiggly mass instead of a joint, or, in the case of ferals in particular, drawing human legs and just making the ankle long. Whatever your skill level is, there's no shame in going back to the basics! You never know when you'll learn something new!
And if this happened to help you, consider leaving a tip on my ko-fi page! It'd be most appreciated. https://www.ko-fi.com/phoenixofstarlight

Been looking at many tutorials, digitigrade study pics for the past two days. I love this one compared to some others...
BUt my problem is i'm not trying to draw them.. I'M TRYING TO EXPLAIN them in writing. That is, trying to figure out how to detail the legs in a story.. Because I want to have slightly more bent digitigrade than most tutorials have and the only way I can explain is that it's usually from the pads to the 'heel' is a 110-120 degree angle, then from the 'heel' to the 'knee' being a 90 degree angle, and then from the 'knee' to hips is yet another 90 degree angle. This is just as an at ease posture without say, crouching, nor standing at their full height. I have where the species I'm working on ranges from 6 ft 9 in to 7 ft 6 in.. been trying to find help.. anyone know of references or ideas?
