Happy New Year! Here's hoping one of your goals was doing more Thursday Prompts...
“You know, it's a funny thing about writers. Most people don't stop to think of books being written by people much like themselves. They think that writers are all dead long ago--they don't expect to meet them in the street or out shopping. They know their stories but not their names, and certainly not their faces. And most writers like it that way.” ― Cornelia Funke
Be sure to place the link for your completed story in the comments section of this post so we can find it.
You might consider making your own TP icon to announce your story as such. Readers watch for this and will respond.
If you do to participate in the Thursday Prompt remember that is good form to read your fellow participants. If you wish to give a critique ask if the writer wishes one and then send it along in a private note.
Always remember: we are all writers together.
This week’s prompt is given to us by a random word generator: extension

"They think that writers are all dead long ago--they don't expect to meet them in the street or out shopping."Seriously? I met Kurt Vonnegut waiting for our prescriptions, back in the 1980s. 'Real writers' don't have staff to do things like picking up small items, especially when they're out visiting friends far from home.
Oh, no; we were both stuck there for a while (pretty much lunch time and it was very busy). I recognized him immediately (he was quite tall) and he was picking up a prescription for Krementz (his wife's surname). I said, "There's a familiar name." He asked, "Oh, are you a fan of hers or mine?" I mentioned that I had recently finished Deadeye Dick and had read Slapstick, or Lonesome No More! a few years before. He nodded and sort of quizzed me on what I liked -- or not -- about each of them.
It's nice to meet celebrities in a non-confrontational atmosphere. I had met Harlan Ellison a few years before (when I was still in my late teens) and he was ready for a smart-@$$ fan-attack only to find I actually 'got' his work. I met Peter Boyle years later in a pizza restaurant and he was very pleasant -- especially after I told him I had never watched Raymond.
When Mom met Frank Sinatra... not so good...
