The entire Archie Sonic comic is online and can be read for free. There was a forced reboot due to a copyright issue one of the comic writers, Ken Penders, had with the Sonic Chronicles game involving echidnas, which he had created many of them for the comic. Seeing Shade, a echidna other than Knuckles, in a sonic game caused him to snap and sue Sega. There was a lawsuit battle in court and this forced Sega to remove all of the characters that the court decreed were Penders' property. Sega now won't touch any of the Freedom Fighters for their games, which is a shame because I always wanted to see a Sonic game with Sally in it's storyline.
Yeah, that won't happen. Sega moved away from that property after the comic ended, they also put in strict rules that canon Sonic characters can't mix with non canon characters the way they did, such as family relations and relationships, etc. Something so the Pander's incident wouldn't happen again.
That's why Snively got butchered, as in, his design and the fact that they made him no longer related to Dr. Eggman.
