Goth music is more closely associated with the likes of Bauhaus and the Cure.

Marylin Manson is more associated with alternative, hard and shock rock. Kind of like a heavier Alice Cooper.

I'm not quite sure I'd agree with that statement there. They're both cut of the same cloth. Marilyn Manson is much more extreme but that's what came with the time. Behind the rock on both ends sit rather talented, articulate men with great passion for their art. :P

I was making a rather left handed joke. More seriously I feel there is a strong argument to be made that what appears to be 'a more extreme version' of the same is in fact pandering to lowest common denominator. Alice, whom has been around forever, even as he struggled with his own mental and emotional stability, at least tried to be original and his content relies more on the classic aesthetics of horror. Marylin Manson on the other hand, who has produced some good music intermittently, seems in my opinion to string together pedantic composition with "shock rock" in order to make his own work look better. At least with GWAR it was a joke. In the end I'm always going to favor the opinion of Ozzy Osborn, who when asked what he thought of the fact Marylin Manson looked up to him, said Manson was a f*cking A**hole.

I don't really hold a strong opinion of current Ozzy. Ozzy used to be great, but the new music is kinda mediocre and the poor guy can't keep up during performances anymore. A legend but the star has diminished!

Noooope. He's just about right with the decades of emergence. Emo, however, had been bastardised quite heavily in the 00's though by both crappy bands who perpetuate the negative stereotypes and their critics who deride them for it. :)

Bit late, but I love to see someone showing the change in social personality after each movment. The 60's were a failure and the future was grim and pointless, causing the youth of the world to rebel in their own way. thus punk was born. after the scene came to be it's been a steady march of decline into apathy and self importance.
