Some might recall that awhile back I drew my own take on Rouge the Bat- http://www.furaffinity.net/view/27961642/ -which quickly, yet unintentionally resulted in my drawing Amy Rose - https://www.furaffinity.net/view/28107676/ - in a similar vain. Well I suppose you could say I opened Pandora's Box because it got me more and more interested in how I would personally depict the rest of the Sonic cast and if I was going to do this potentially cringey task, there's no better place to start then with the's series' namesake himself, Sonic the Hedgehog!
This project actually started back last year and took me forever to finalize. I'm still not sure if I'm 100% happy with it, but I settled with an approximate 90% happiness rating, so it'll do. (I can always just draw it again until it looks right in my eyes) I think my biggest issue comes in the fact that I wanted to put more clothing on him, but the more and more I thought on it, a character who's super power is speed and effectively uses his body as a weapon due to it being covered in quills MIGHT not benefit from wearing too much, if only because anything on his torso probably wouldn't last very long! So I had to opt out of some ideas.
All-in-all I personally see Sonic as one of those "not the hero we want, but the one we got" sort of characters. Sure, his heart's generally in the right place but his head's up his own ass. A guy who started out kind of humble, maybe even an awkward, out of shape nerd but after quashing the intentions of a certain egg-shaped villain and getting more in shape, fame got to his head and he quickly turned more into a frat boy, dude-bro, douche bag who thinks he's way cooler then he really is. He's also the one responsible for granting nearly half the cast their nicknames, I mean do you REALLY think someone named their kid "Sonic" or "Knuckles" or "Big"!? I mean we know for a fact that Tails' real name is Miles and we have other characters like Amy with real names, so why in the world are we to believe names like "Silver" or "Blaze" are real? As to what all their real names are..? I don't know and I probably won't explore it, but I can assume in the case of Sonic it's something really dumb sounding that he doesn't want anyone to know.
As is fairly obvious, I also see Sonic as being fairly similar to Kamina from Gurren Lagann (hence the shades) in that, while he may be a swaggering idiot, he has an uncanny ability to lead and inspire others if only through his sheer, undying tenacity and consistently denying truth and substituting his own which inexplicably works. This MAY be further points to him being a literal incarnation of chaos, but we won't go into that! In the end, Sonic CAN be a total badass just... rarely in the way he intends to be and really, doesn't that just define the series as a whole?

Assuming anyone read this, as I've sort of started a chain reaction here and intend on eventually drawing more Sonic characters in my style feel free to leave a comment suggesting who you'd like to see next. You might give me ideas for ones I never intended to draw!

Yeah there was a bit of Jet Set Radio inspiration as well. Glad you noticed. Cream was one I was going to draw, and I guess that would entail her mom though to be frank I don't think they'd look all too different, I'd basically just draw from how I did Cream here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/28029681/ so it would probbaly just being them in my general style... but I mean... who's to say I wouldn't make Vanilla THICC as fuck XD
That's pretty much perfect. He's kind of a complete loaf, but he does an ok job as a hero, and people put up with his bluster and swagger [when they get to know him enough for it to grate] because he really does do what he is able to to help people, even despite the ego the size of a blimp.
Also I would still stick my dick in crazy for that Amy, seriously I know how bad of an idea it is but I wouldn't be able to stop myself, probably end up as the overworked and unpaid vice president of her insane sonic fanclub for it, but it'd be worth it... maybe.

I really like this design.
The way you emphasize the shoes with three buckles, because of course a speedster would want his shoes to be as secure and efficient as possible.
The shades not only look... well, maybe not quite cool, but they'd be decent for protecting his eyes from the wind pressure. (He probably either thinks goggles are too geeky or Tails wore them first and Sonic would chew off a leg before he let people think he was taking fashion tips from his favorite nerd)
The short-shorts are as minimal as it gets, with the bonus that he gets to show off his bony butt to his adoring fans.
His accessories are nice, like the glowing blue bracelet and the red-jeweled ring (Is that a nod to "Sonic and the Secret Rings? If so, where is the glowing blue bracelet from?) as well as the scarf; but my favorite are the big bracelet-rings. They're big enough that he would have to make a conscious effort to keep them from falling off whenever he puts his arms down, but the effect of having big, gold, danging rings hanging from his wrists whenever he pauses or poses would be amazing, so I'd say it's worth it.

Glad you took so much from all that. The shades were mostly for coolness, the fact that they can help block wind from his eyes is really just incidental for him XD but yeah, I doubt he'd ever wear goggles. The shoes were made to more closely rival Michael Jackson's from the BAD music video which are what Sonic's shoes are actually based after (though they really don't look like them at all) as for the accessories, they were all taken from things he's worn in different games. The scarf, obviously from Sonic Boom. The light blue right is the Crystal Ring from Sonic Adventure that halved the duration of build up for the Light-Speed Dash and the ring is the Fire Ring from Sonic Adventure 2, which added a fire effect to his spin, though it could be a reference to the Secret Rings. I just felt like accessorizing him added more to his flare and made up for his lack of clothing
Interesting take. I do wonder why most of the cast had abnormal names while we have actual names like Amy and Miles. I do find it would also fit with Sonic's Character that he'd be embarrassed by his real name. Not to sure how I feel about the socks length, but I do like how you tried fitting different elements from different Sonic designs. (At least that's what I think you did.)

Yes, I combined things from both Sonic Adventures and Sonic Boom with the Crystal Ring, Fire Ring and scarf. His shoes and socks I made more in homage to Micheal Jackson, who Sonic's shoes are supposedly based after but look nothing like. As for the names, I'd have never thought twice on it until we got Tails' real name. Even then I could almost turn a blind eye as it is, in fact a pun but after all the SatAM characters with legit names and other video game characters like Amy I just really couldn't take "Sonic" as a legitimate name.
It seems pretty on par for his character that he just very casually gives nicknames to people either out of a since of kinship or to mock someone. After all, in recent times it's basically been shown that Robotnik's title of "Eggman" was a mocking nickname Sonic gave him and he just used it and turned it around on him. (which also points to my theory that Eggman is a pathetic defeatist who allows himself to lose as he adopted the "You can't hurt me, I'LL hurt me!" memo, but I digress) I've always assumed Sonic's name was something nerdy, the name that always came to mind was "Collin Quilling" and I think only Tails may know that. As for others, like Knuckles. I've always assumed his real name is just totally unknown. Sonic called him Knuckles and eventually he just stuck with that. It kinda keeps him a little more mysterious...
As for your takes on the character, go ahead! I'd love to see them! In the case of Shadow, he is one that I am wanting to draw if only to take the model I made for Sonic and warp it. I'd definitely slip in some edgelord material there on purpose just for the lulz~

Huh. Never new about that Michel Jackson thing with the shoes. Also an interesting take on Eggman as well. I never thought what Knuckles name would be like.

I was trying to aim for a more mature look for him. (Tails too, as I do plan on lewds with them and don't want people bitching to me about their canon ages.) While doing so, I still wanted to give him a sense of a rebellious nature, thus trying urban/ganster style. As for background, I took a bit from "The Sonic Bible" which had Sonic as a regular hedgehog before an experiment with a chaos emerald by Robotnik Mutated him. Rendering his fur blue and granting him superspeed. Sonic escaped Robotnik's lab eventually, but was traumatized by all the experimentation, and still a bit freaked out by his newfound speed, which eventually lead him to a ministry of monks, where he was healed both physically and mentally. Learning to clear his mind of all stress. From this, he grows to appreciate the beauty of the world, and despite his high speed prowess, prefers to usually stop and admire the calmness of whatever environment he finds himself in next.
Will Shadow have a leather trenchcoat/ Guns and katanas? Chains and belts? XD

Yeah, I've looked up a lot on Sonic. Supposedly his shoes were based on Michael Jackson's in 'Bad' but with Christmas colors and his personality is based of Bill Clinton..? ...apparently!?! And the whole thing about Eggman is really more an inside joke of mine but it kinda makes sense if you really look into it.
