'You'll be in my Heart' (+short story)
//Song used: 'You'll Be In My Heart' by Phil Collins//
I listened to the song for the first time in a while about two days or so ago and got this idea. :'D
Elias was a VERY sickly child being a crossbreed(half vampire, half werewolf), and he was enough of a medical anomaly to surprise everyone when he survived to adulthood. His childhood consisted of constant nights with his moms and the ever looming threat of suddenly dying because of how severe the sickness was. Usually Aria was around to help, considering she had the most medical experience of the two, but very VERY rarely, it was Mica, who only had her own primal instinct to act off of.
Obviously little Elias survives, as I said, but it was still a pretty terrifying time for them.
--- Story ---
Mica sat at the small desk in the room she was in, carefully sewing a small doll back together. The poor thing was years old and kept coming apart, but she couldn't bring herself to throw it away. Her eyes darted along the fabric, meticulously aiming and threading the needle through as if her life depended on it. It was quiet from what she could hear, with the occasional guard footsteps every now and then. Aria had gone on a hunt, so she was alone.
Well, not completely.
In the room through the connecting door was their son Elias, now at age three. She didn't want to leave him alone, but neither wanted to move him as soon as he fell asleep to keep him in the same room. But despite knowing he was asleep, she couldn't help but keep her head tilted towards the door, listening. Even though she could clearly hear his breathing, she paused her movements before looking at the door. Something felt off... And eerie feeling creeped up her spine, and so she carefully set down what she was doing and stood. There was silence for a few moments with just their breathing; until she heard whimpers. Very unhuman whimpers.
"Shit-" she growled, suddenly darting to the door. She opened it quickly and quietly, making her way in and over to the bed he slept in, and she suddenly froze.
He had changed form in his sleep, his tail curling over his hind paws and his wings bundling him tightly under the surprising amount of blankets he had over him. But it wasn't the blankets that worried her; she knew he loved them.
No.
It was the shivering.
Violent shivering.
His ears pressed his ears to the back of his head, and Mica didn't move. The suddeness of the sickness hit her like a truck, and she began to panic.
"Nononononononono...." she muttered, looking around frantically. She felt nauseous as she remembered that her partner was out, and she was alone. The vampire had way more medical experience than she ever could have dreamed of.. Why did she have to leave NOW? She was stuck in her thoughts until a small voice made her look.
"Muh...?" Elias muttered, having awoken from her voice. She looked down at him.
"Hey.. Hey, kiddo... It's alright, it's just me..." She spoke softly, reaching carefully to scratch around his ears. As he pressed his head to her hand with another whimper, she could feel the skin under the fur. He was freezing... even moreso than usual. She racked her brain quickly, trying not to make her second rush of panic to obvious. Cold... He was cold.
Cold.
Cold...
She suddenly perked up.
Warm.
"Hold on, buddy." She said quickly, backing away. She kept her eyes on him as she undressed as quick as she could, feeling her own fur grow with every piece she removed. Last to go was the binding around her chest, and allowed the sudden growth to take place. She grunted with the many cracks and pops that accompanied each transformation. She shook out her fur as soon as she finished, making her way to the bed.
"C'mere..." she said, picking Elias up as gently as she could. He did't move until the held him to her chest, clinging tightly to the long fur. She couldn't help it as she jumped at his cold paws, hugging him close.
She didn't move for a moment, but flattened her ears as she realized it wasn't enough. She could still feel his vigorous shivering even as she held him as carefully tight as possible. She turned and made her way to the door, many thoughts crossing her mind at once. Was he alright? Would he be ok? How long would this last? Would it even go away?
Would this be what finally took him from her?
She set her jaw at the last thought, clutching the small wolf to her chest as she found herself running down the hall on three legs, her paws thudding against the floor. She slowed as she saw the door she had been looking for; the library. She made a small pivot on her feet, slipping through the door and making a b-line towards the back of the spacious room. She gave a small huff of relief as she saw that the fireplace had still been lit, albeit barely. She frowned as she heard more whimpers coming from her chest, and reached to ignite the flames moreso than they were. The fireplace roared to life, the flames daring to lick at her fur through the iron grate that covered it. She could feel the heat on her face as she stood, moving to sit next to it and against the wall. There... That should be better... She adjusted Elias against her chest, looking at him as he curled to her as much as his little body would let him. She felt hot tears prick her eyes as she looked at the small black wolf, fighting away thoughts of the worst. No... No, she couldn't think that... He wouldn't die. She knew he wouldn't. He had survived this long, there was no way a shiver would be the thing to take him away. It wasn't until she heard him give a light sniffle that she pressed her muzzle to his and pulled her knees up against them.
"Come stop your crying, it will be alright..." She suddenly sang, her voice light and quiet. She could feel him relax at the sound of her voice. "Just take my hand, and hold it tight. I will protect you, from all around you..." A nuzzle. "I will be here, don't you cry..."
She stopped for a moment, taking a breath as he carefully moved, wrapping a small wing around her muzzle to keep her close. Her mouth twitched into a slight smile.
"For one so small, you seem so strong... My arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm. This bond between us, can't be broken, I will be here, don't you cry."
"'Cause you'll be in my heart.
Yes, you'll be in my heart.
From this day on,
Now and forever more.
You'll be in my heart,
No matter what they say.
You'll be here in my heart
Always."
Please forgive the not perfect writing :'D I was super tired and it's not the longest story I've ever done, so it's not to well written, but it gets the point across pretty well I think.
