I'm like the king of a rain-country, rich
but sterile, young but with an old wolf's itch,
one who escapes his tutor's monologues,
and kills the day in boredom with his dogs;
nothing cheers him, darts, tennis, falconry,
his people dying by the balcony;
the bawdry of the pet hermaphrodite
no longer gets him through a single night;
his bed of fleur-de-lys becomes a tomb;
even the ladies of the court, for whom
all kings are beautiful, cannot put on
shameful enough dresses for this skeleton;
the scholar who makes his gold cannot invent
washes to cleanse the poisoned element;
even in baths of blood, Rome's legacy,
our tyrants' solace in senility,
he cannot warm up his shot corpse, whose food
is syrup-green Lethean ooze, not blood.
- Charles Baudelaire (original in french)

fuck me, that's beautiful. Not just the poem the artwork is based upon, but the sheer atmosphere dripping from the artwork itself. It oozes emotion with the texture of a dead heart. I adore this piece, and you made it adorable. You are what those hundreds of years ago and today would call a Great artist.
It looks awesome and catches the mood of the poem very well. Reading it just deepened the feeling the image was already creating before.
And given that you started from the poem I find it interesting how you brought this into the modern world, where it may be even more applicable that to "the old world", the poem seems to stem from.
With so much incentive to forgo emotions and so many reasons to grow numb and indifferent.
(Kind of tugs at my heartstrings in that department.)

Thank you. Yeah i felt it makes more sense to push it into a more modern setting honestly, because even while it doesn't contain many elements that really evoke anything in particular, it just works a bit better for the mood i wanted to create. For that the old times where it is set just is a bit too disconnected.
Wow the feeling of having no purpose in life, being trapped in a golden cage.
This really shows money can't buy happiness, power isn't everything, if you can't share it with someone. At least that's what the poem is about for me. He is on top of everything and therefore so isolated. The color green is really holding this together. The Lethe is the river of forgetfulness, the dead had to drink from it to forget their past life in order to be reborn. Maybe a hint that you can't bring his luxuries with you when you die?
Poem aside the artwork also really shows the feeling of being depressed (no matter the cause). The thin body, the trapped reflection, he isn't himself really and everyone is so far away.
