The gateway was nearing completion. Only a few more moments and it would be fully formed. Leon edged over to where the rift would appear ready to dive in. The banging on the door had stopped and was now replaced by the sounds of heavy blaster fire. It would not last much longer under the barrage though. The gateway was almost done; he could see the ripples of the doorway already coalescing into the portal that would provide his escape. The door to the lab however soon collapsed under the barrage of fire and in walked a Lombax Admiral flanked by his guards.
“Hold it right there Leon. You are under arrest and you WILL surrender yourself and your research to the War Council. That is final.”
“So long Admiral, we will not meet again.” Leon said as he leapt into the now coalesced gateway.
The admiral didn’t have enough time to bark out his next order before him and everything around him was sucked into the void and ripped to its constituent atoms. The last thing that went through Leon’s mind in this dimension was that at least their deaths were relatively painless and he hoped that he had done the right thing as he hurtled through the space between dimensions.
