A Medic Mouse fanfic. Meet Dr. Bobbi Jo Hayes, A.K.A. She maybe the Chief Medical Officer of the Bureau, but her days consist of more than just flu shots and tongue depressors. They say dynamite comes in small packages, so read on about this petite brown field mouse with a heart of gold and the strength of Superman.

Yeah, I like that a lot. She is a big help. I'll have her be in the "First Mission" comic more. I'm wanting her, Mystic Cat, Ranger, and Crimson Cur to have a few words towards the end of the comic.
More like after the fight with Brambleberry is over and the involvement of those bratty kids.

Yeah, well there's a story behind that. Ranger was going to receive her promotion in the Texas Tilly story I've been working on. That story is turning out to be a bit longer than I expected, and since I felt inspired to complete this story, I went ahead and posted it. Chronologically, THIS story was to follow the Texas Tilly story.
I goofed. Sorry about that. I'll try to maintain a more consistant timeline in the future.
There will be one exception. A story I'm working on for
train will take place two to three years prior to the current storyline of Colmaton. This story will be about Lady Liberty's near fatal encounter at Stonehenge and will explain how the Mighty Mare got her stripes (and a whole lot more).

Thanks. Chronologically, Bobbi is over 70 but thanks to the side effects of her powers, biologically she's more like 40. She's still a bit old fashioned in her ways, taste in clothes and music, but she likes it that way. She's someone who believes in acting her age (except when in she's fighting crime).
Haven't finished reading all of it but not bad so far. The three camels were a little... okay, a lot of hammy but not bad. Medic mouse has some potential... may I recommend reading the Metadocs? It's a comicbook series about a group of superhero doctors and the kind of things they get involved in with their hospital. So far we've had the intro and a brief adventure dealing with a zombie outbreak...
That was a fun read.
Holy Cow, Medic mouse seems to be one of the more powerful members of the bureau. Super strength, invulnerability, flight, Super speed, super senses, laser vision and healing powers. What can't she do? I have to agree with Psion, Medic mouse should use her healing powers a lot more. We never got to actually see them. BTW, I get the idea that she is old but not physically as old as she is in years like her super powers slowed her aging process.
Mystic cat is some serious bitch, huh? Everything I read paints her in a worse light than the story before it. How can anyone work with her? Good to have an antagonist as part of the regular cast though.
Seriously though, Medic mouse seems like she could easily be the most powerful member of the bureau. I know Dyno Donkey has the flight, strength, toughness combo and the scream but he does not seem to have as much going on as her. Just can't quite get over that. A lot of the bureau members all seem to have super strength, flight and toughness which is kind of boring after a while. We did not see her use any super healing abilities (wait, do her super healing powers only function on herself? That would technically be regeneration I think). That alone would make her the one person you always wanted around in any story involving a group or team.
Think about it. Having a character with regeneration or the power to heal others means you can have edgier ro more serious stories cause now your heroes can get seriously, realistically hurt and have a legitimate way to bounce back from it. However, you seem to enjoy a good mix of lighter side humor with your stories so maybe you don't want to pursue that.
I enjoyed reading it!

Thanks for your comments, Egg. I can see there are many flaws in this story. The most obvious of these is the fact I didn't really stress major parts of her personality and powers. Yes, the accident that created her powers DID slow her aging process down. Although chronologically she's over 70, physically she's more like 40. Another thing is that although she is very powerful, she truly thinks of herself as a doctor first, hero second. Didn't see that in this story, my bad. One point I hoped to stress was her experience as an asset. Since Bobbi's been a super for a very long time (way before the Bureau formed) she knows many of the 'old school' supers personally. As she demonstrated with Dizzy's robot, she used her past experience to quickly dismantle it rather than use raw power to destroy it. She even used her smarts to outwit the Green Gopher by allowing herself to be 'bait' while bringing in the Gila Monster to help stop him. I think I needed to develop those traits a bit more in this story.
It's true that this story wasn't as edgy as some of my others. Guess I need to watch that too.
And yes, I do like comic flair in my stories. I try not to sacrifice 'seriousness' to maintain humor, but in this case I obviously didn't do this as well.
This wasn't one of my best stories, hopefully I can do better in the future.

It was a good story and I did catch her experience being as much of an asset as her level of power. However, she is so damn powerful that it almost doesn't shine like it needs to. If she was not as powerful as the rest of the bureau but used her experience to defeat enemies that would give others a hard time then it would have more of an impact do you see.
I like the concept of Medic Mouse but if I had to redesign her, I'd keep somethings and trim others down
1) her actual age being much more than physical means she is much different from her teammates. I'd play that up a lot as it would come up all the time.
2) I'd make her less physically powerful. Maybe keep her sense powers and flight and a little strength but her lazer vision, super speed and indestructibility is over the top. She should get hurt more so we can see her using her super powers to heal herself.
3) healing others is an underused power because it means the character has to function with others to really shine. It makes her an incredible team player and an asset that no super hero organization would want to do without. When a terrorist shoots someone, as long as they are not immediately killed Medic mouse should be able to save them. Perhaps if she was touching them, they might not be hurt at all as the bullet seems to enter and exit the target harmlessly when actually it was just healed super fast. OOH! Maybe her powers are so good on herself that she just gives the illusion of being invulnerable when actually she heals/regenerates so fast she just looks like she took no damage.
4) Her experience should always be her main offense. She does not even need martial arts as she has just been fighting for so long and she knows what they will do in almost all cases. Fighting her is almost like being at the feet of the master and even when someone hits her, it has almost no effect as she heals so fast.
So, I could see a different spin on Medic Mouse making her a very different character that defeats her enemies with sheer staying power and experience instead of lazers and superpunches that can flatten a buick. By herself, she is a formidable opponent that can outthink and definitely outlast almost anyone and when put with almost any ally, she makes the group much stronger overall.
Sorry to ramble. Just my thoughts.

I do appreciate your thoughts on this! I consider you an authority on superfurs and you bring up many interesting observations about Medic Mouse.
I guess I see part of her 'shock value' in the fact that she doesn't flaunt her strength. This and the fact that most people would be very surprized that such a tiny lady (at 4' 10", she's even shorter than Crimson Cur) can be so strong. Medic Mouse's also rather senile, speaking her mind freely and not being so overly concerned with 'getting into trouble' with her superiors.
Perhaps in futures stories I can 'reinvent' her with less powers, less strength and display her healing and medical skills more frequently. I definately don't want her (or any of my superfur characters for that matter) to become too "Mary Jane." The main thing about Medic Mouse is she knows she could have a more prominate role in the Bureau but chooses not to. As I said before, she considers herself a doctor first, a superhero second.
I am very open to your suggestions, Egg. Please keep them coming!

very good story! a nice day for Medic Mouse but a bad day for Mystic Cat. man she was really pushing it that day, it was just nasty the way she treated everyone. of course being sucker punched in the face is never a good start for anyone's day . i wonder what would have happen if Ranger and Medic Mouse did file a complaint against her? would MC get fired? or only suspended/demoted? it was nice to see Crimson Cur standing up for herself too, although the way MC's day was going the odds were in Ji-Lin's favor
all and all a grate red as always MoJoRover, it was nice seeing Ranger in your story too
