This is a low-res photo of my submission for a GlamFur Zine my friends, Felix and Florian, are putting together! If you want to see the hi-res version, you’ll have to check out the zine when it comes out! :3 Can’t wait to see the whole thing come together!
So this is General (left) and Mesquite (right). I liked the idea of having two of my oldest characters in this piece. Especially because they couldn’t be more opposite. General is carefree and fun loving, she has purpose and direction in her life. Mesquite is a drug addict, serious and manipulative and tragic. Both have had their share of hard times, but their respective approaches to life has landed them where they are now. Where General can take responsibility for her own happiness and decide not to be a victim, Mesquite just will not. They each represent different parts of me. Mesquite is the embodiment of myself when I was in active addiction; a reminder of what I never want to be again. General is the embodiment of my future in recovery. I chose their backgrounds because, although they follow the same color scheme to unite the two polar ends of the piece, General is backed by images of space. She has her head in the stars, looking to the future, with the universe open before her. Mesquite is backed by images of Amethyst (ironically known as the sobriety stone). She has her head buried in the earth, heavy and stuck in her ways, held down by the weight of her self pity. When tossed into the ocean of life’s problems, she sinks immediately to the bottom and cannot resurface on her own. For these reasons, she will always be earth-bound and never see the stars.
