An Erebus Mining Company representative, David Burke is the “corporate oversight” of the mission.
His primary responsibility is to determine the viability of
new worlds, in terms of logistics, safety, and material value.
An acute sensitivity to light ensures that Burke is never without his glasses for very long. His style of dress easily singles him out among the rest of the crew.
His gray suit, gloves, polished shoes, and a tie are visual reminders of the profit-driven corporate world he represents.
The crew is all too aware of his purpose, and treats Burke as a nuisance that must be tolerated. It’s as if everyone has already decided that he’s nothing more than an uncaring, greedy company man."
