It was a crazy-ass awesome American book series back in the 90s, it was about a group of kids who acquired alien technology from a dying alien and were able to morph into any animal DNA they acquired in order to fight an invading parasitic alien species that resided in and controlled one's mind.

Kiiiinda XD Except the kids can actively absorb the DNA of animals and even other humans--basically any matter of fauna--by touching them. The plot is incredibly complicated too, and the alien designs are a lot more biologically detailed.
