I can't escape this hell
So many times I've tried
...
I can't escape myself
So many times I've lied
...
Somebody get me through this nightmare
I can't control myself
Three Days Grace - "Animal I Have Become"
As overused as that song is for this sort of thing, it fits Mishka very well. So well, in fact, that I could not shake the urge to draw him when it came up on my playlist at total random today.
Also trying out some new things in le Photoshop. I've been trying to coax a more solid/sharp style out of it for my big digital stuff for ages, and I think I'm finally getting there.
Mishka has epic mood swings.

Gorgeous...I love the intensity in his expression and the fur detail is absolutely beautiful! I love that this is monochromatic...I think the fact that it predominantly is really works for the mood of this piece, especially because the slight hints of red are the only color that is noticeable. The clench fist is beautifully detailed and I love the blood dripping down. And I absolutely love that eye! Amazing work!
Thank you so much! I love comments like this because they tell me exactly what I need to know as far as whether things work or not in my art. xD
I've developed a real soft-spot for monochromatic stuff lately, since I've been adding color after I've already worked through the picture in black and white, and sometimes I just end up liking the b&w so much better. I was determined to leave this one mostly in that state. And I'm very glad it worked. <3

You're welcome! ^__^
Something tells me that this piece wouldn't work nearly as well if it were completely in color (not meaning that it wouldn't be beautiful because it would, but meaning that it wouldn't nearly be as powerful as it is). I think the little splashes of red are the only color it needed and I love that the red isn't overpowering. Usually with color in monochromatic pieces, the color stick out like a sore thumb. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't, but it works so perfectly that there is just a tiny, tiny bit of red here.
The whole power of this, I think, is with Mishka's expression and his fist and the emotion that conveys which is extremely powerful. :3

Thanks very much, I've always had a fascination with monochromatic art and photos, though with commissions I never really get to do it, so I simply had to try it out on my own stuff.
I'd just like to say you have a definite knack for critiquing/reviewing art, and I wanted to let you know how much I greatly appreciate each comment you've taken the time to leave on my work. :3
