i have seen some people be really good at cabling racks, having all the wiring on the side and never in the way when you have to take some equipment out or in, although that requires quality racks ! i know apc makes great ones for instance :3
but with the average tech it indeed becomes a complete mess relatively fast with wiring trapping some equipment in, forcing you to take it out from the side instead of the front, or even two units being too tightly screwed preventing you from putting a third one in between even if there is 1U free there :D
