Well this was a random pain in the ass. Last year, I bought a parcel of amethyst that had already been faceted, but was cracked, chipped, abraded, or otherwise seen as not worth much. My intention was to recut it. This piece was originally a pear shaped cut with a big chunk chipped out of the girdle. I glued it to the dop with no real ideas or intentions for it, then left it there while I worked on other projects. Well, earlier today, I needed to use the dop it was glued to for something else I'm working on, so I decided to make this a quick and easy cut that still looked good. Turns out that this was a deeply flawed piece of amethyst. It cracked, it chipped in several places, and all around made things take twice as long as they should have. The fact that it still took less than 4 hours just shows the simplicity of this cut. Thankfully, I got it all sorted and have a flawless stone at the end of it all.
